Not every commercial building is automatically suitable for solar PV - and that’s exactly why feasibility comes first.

Before a business commits to a project, there are several things that need to be considered:

👉Roof condition and available space
👉Structural suitability
👉Current energy usage
👉Grid connection and DNO requirements
👉Fire and access considerations
👉Expected generation and payback
👉Whether the project makes commercial sense

At Comera Energy, we can assess these factors early and help businesses, consultants and contractors understand whether solar is viable before progressing further.

A feasibility assessment can help identify potential issues early, avoid wasted design time and give stakeholders a clearer picture of likely costs, savings and project potential.

Planning commercial solar? The earlier it enters the design conversation, the better.

Solar PV can affect far more than the roof.

For consultants and M&E contractors, early coordination can help avoid issues later around:

⚡ Electrical capacity and distribution
🔌 DNO and grid-connection requirements
🏗️ Structural loading and roof condition
🛠️ Access, maintenance and future servicing
📊 System sizing, generation and ROI

Bringing the solar contractor in once the wider design is already fixed can mean unnecessary redesign, delays or compromises

At Comera Energy, we work with project teams to consider the technical and commercial requirements of solar from the outset - helping ensure the system fits the building, the programme and the client’s objectives.

If you're a consultant, M&E contractor or project team considering solar on an upcoming scheme, we’d be happy to get involved at an early stage.

The awkward parts of commercial solar are often where experience matters most. Every commercial site comes with constraints.

Sometimes it's structural loading.

Sometimes it's an existing fire system.

Sometimes it's grid capacity.

And sometimes it's something nobody expected at the beginning of the programme.

At Science Creates in Bristol, for example, Comera Energy's PV installation involved liaison with Network Rail because of the site's proximity to railway infrastructure. The programme also had to accommodate nesting birds before works could proceed.

The finished system comprised 228 panels, with an estimated annual generation of approximately 91,667 kWh.

It's a useful reminder that delivering commercial solar successfully isn't just about the array.

It's about managing the wider environment around it.

That's why having an experienced solar delivery partner involved early can make a difference.

Solar for a dining hall serving 1,400 students a day ☀️

At Bromsgrove School, Comera Energy delivered a roof-mounted solar PV system as part of the refurbishment and extension of the school’s dining hall.

Designed to support a high-use building with strong daytime energy demand, the system now generates:

✅ 31,407 kWh per year
✅ £8,010 annual savings
✅ £200,200 estimated lifetime savings
✅ 7,323 kg CO₂ offset per year

A great example of how solar can help improve efficiency, reduce running costs and support more sustainable buildings.

Solar should make an M&E consultant’s job easier - not harder.
Commercial solar doesn't sit in isolation.

It needs to work with the building, the electrical infrastructure, fire strategy, structural requirements and wider M&E design. That’s why early technical input matters.

At Comera Energy, our commercial solar work can include:

⚡ System design and electrical integration
🏗️ Structural and wind-load considerations
🔥 Fire-system integration
🔌 DNO pre-approval and G99 applications
📊 Generation, savings and ROI modelling
☀️ Installation and ongoing support

For consultants and M&E contractors, bringing the solar team into the conversation early can help identify constraints before they become programme problems.

We’re keen to build stronger relationships with consultants, M&E contractors and project teams delivering commercial and public-sector projects across the UK.

If you've got a project where solar is being considered, we'd be happy to have an early-stage conversation.

Could your business benefit from solar? ☀️

There’s more to commercial solar than finding a roof and filling it with panels.

The right system needs to consider your electricity usage, roof structure, available space, grid connection, fire safety requirements and - importantly - the financial return for your organisation.

At Comera Energy, commercial systems are designed around the individual site and its energy requirements, helping businesses understand:

☀️ potential solar generation
💷 estimated savings
📊 expected payback
🔋 battery storage opportunities
⚡ technical and grid requirements

The aim is simple: a solar system that makes sense technically and commercially.

If you're considering solar for your business premises, start by understanding what your site could realistically deliver.

Keeping an iconic London landmark generating safely and efficiently. ☀️

The Comera Energy team recently carried out planned solar PV maintenance and electrical testing at BBC Television Centre in London.

Regular maintenance is an important part of looking after any commercial solar investment. By inspecting and testing the system, our engineers can identify potential issues such as damaged cabling, poor connections, electrical faults or underperforming sections of the solar array before they become bigger problems.

Our team completed a full visual inspection and specialist DC electrical testing, with the results recorded in a detailed maintenance report for the client.

For commercial property owners, these records can also be important where insurers require evidence that solar PV systems are being regularly inspected and maintained.

From installation through to ongoing maintenance, fault finding and technical support, we’re here to help keep commercial solar systems safe, reliable and performing efficiently.

A pretty impressive location for the team this time too! ☀️🏙️

🔋 How can battery storage help reduce your energy costs?

Installing solar panels is a great way to generate your own electricity - but what happens to the energy you don't use straight away?

Without battery storage, any unused energy is typically exported back to the grid.

With a battery storage system, you can store that excess energy and use it later, such as in the evening when electricity demand is higher.

The benefits include:

✅ Lower electricity bills by using more of the energy you generate
✅ Reduced reliance on the grid during peak times
✅ Greater energy independence
✅ A more efficient solar energy system
✅ Potential protection against rising energy prices

Whether you're a homeowner looking to make the most of your solar investment or a business wanting to improve energy efficiency, battery storage could make a real difference.

At Comera Energy, we help our customers find the right renewable energy solutions for their needs - not just the latest technology.
