CONCEPT DESIGN: Large Family Garden in Gloucestershire

Our clients have gradually expanded their garden over the last few years, creating an opportunity to rethink how the space works as a whole. The brief was to create a garden for family life and entertaining, while retaining a generous lawn for children to play and introducing greater structure to a largely open site.

One of the key challenges was connecting the raised house to the garden below. A new deck and terrace help bridge the level change, creating a seamless transition between inside and out while providing space for dining, relaxing and spending time with friends and family.

Positioned closer to the house, a new garden room helps define the space and creates a more intimate courtyard feel around the main entertaining terrace.

Existing olive trees are carefully relocated nearby, helping to establish a Mediterranean character that sits comfortably alongside the contemporary arrangement and materials.

Beyond the terrace, the garden opens into expansive lawns framed by deep planting, blossoming fruit trees and naturalistic borders.

It's always rewarding seeing a design begin to take shape through visuals like these, helping clients imagine how their garden could look and feel in the years ahead.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: Contemporary Heritage in Emersons Green

Built in the 1990s, this family home has seen our clients raise their children and create decades of memories. With the children now grown up, it was time for the garden to evolve too.

Working alongside a new extension, we redesigned the space to feel contemporary yet timeless.

Buff limestone terraces, generous steps and herringbone setts bring structure while a framework of mature trees and evergreen planting softens the garden and creates year-round interest.

At this time of year, the Cornus kousa is stealing the show, while Nepeta and Rose 'Desdemona' combine to provide a beautiful early-season display.

Completed just over a year ago, this garden is also a reminder that great gardens don't stop at completion. With irrigation and ongoing professional care, plants establish faster, perform better and continue to improve with time.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: Treetop living in Stoke Bishop

The Architect-clients were in need of a solution to harmoniously link the timber clad eco garden room to their 1930's family home.

Located in the wooded neighborhood of Stoke Bishop, Bristol, the house perches at the top of a large sloped garden. Surrounded by mature trees and undulating terrainz, the brief was to create a site-sensitive terrace which minimally impacted the existing garden whislt providing the family with maximum usability and life within the canopies.

We opted for a galvanised steel framed deck which cantilevered over the historic stone walls. Allowing for access and under planting which was key to softening the structure.

Beautiful mellow toned Siberean Larch clads the deck with a stainless steel cable balustrade ensuring safety without the open feel being impacted.

In the front garden, a softer approach - planked concrete paving dotted through the lawn guiding you around the house.
