Can a drone replace a building surveyor? No. But it can be a very useful surveying tool.

Drones can capture high-resolution imagery of areas that may be difficult, extensive or unsafe to inspect from ground level – making them particularly useful for roofs, façades and other external building elements. But the drone only gathers the information. It is the surveyor who interprets what the imagery shows, identifies defects, assesses their significance and provides professional recommendations. Drone technology gathers the evidence. Surveyors make sense of it.

Easton Bevins was appointed as Employer’s Agent for essential cladding remediation works at 22 York Place, a multi-storey residential development in Leeds.

The project addressed a number of façade and fire-safety concerns, including ACM cladding to the lift shaft, timber cladding and missing compliant cavity barriers.

Working alongside our sister company, CPM, the project involved preparing the initial specification and Employer’s Requirements, managing the tender process and overseeing the works on site.

The completed remediation included the replacement of existing timber cladding and spandrel panels with non-combustible Cedral timber-effect cladding, replacement of ACM cladding with aluminium panels and the installation of compliant cavity barriers throughout.

Cladding remediation is rarely a straightforward replacement exercise. Every building presents its own construction details, interfaces and challenges. Our role was to help ensure the remediation solution was practical, compliant and delivered in line with the contract and programme.

🏢 Is your residential building under 11 metres? Government funding could help with cladding remediation.

The Cladding Safety Scheme, administered by Homes England, provides funding for eligible residential buildings in England where cladding or external wall systems present a fire safety risk.

To qualify, buildings generally need to:

▪️ Be under 11 metres and contain 2+ dwellings
▪️ Have a PAS 9980:2022-compliant FRAEW
▪️ Have a high or medium (action required) fire safety outcome
▪️ Require proportionate remediation or mitigation

⏰ Applications close Friday 9 October 2026.

Applications are assessed in the order they are received, so now is the time to act.

Supporting complex infrastructure at Europe's largest Nickel Refinery. Easton Bevins was appointed to provide Quantity Surveying and Cost Consultancy services for complex civil engineering works at the Clydach Nickel Refinery in Swansea.

The project included an 800m² reinforced concrete slab, more than 550m³ of concrete and approximately 80 tonnes of reinforcement, supported by 28 reinforced concrete piles.

Our role included contract administration, commercial management, cost monitoring and risk management – helping the project team navigate design changes while maintaining programme and financial control. The programme was delivered on time, meeting the client’s critical operational deadline.
