🚨 Important Safety Reminder from Splix Heating Innovations 🚨

As heating engineers, we attend countless landlord gas safety inspections, boiler services, and breakdown call-outs every year. Sadly, one thing we see far too often is issues with carbon monoxide (CO) alarms:

- Missing entirely
- Not fixed securely to the wall in the correct location
- Batteries removed or flat
- Out of date (past their 7-10 year lifespan)
- No installation date marked on the unit

These aren't minor oversights — carbon monoxide is a silent killer, and a faulty or absent alarm can put lives at risk.

Landlords, did you know? Under the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations (updated via the 2022 amendments), it's a legal requirement to install and maintain CO alarms in any room used as living accommodation that contains a fixed combustion appliance (like gas boilers, fires, or oil heaters — excluding gas cookers).

Key points:
- Alarms must be fitted at the start of each tenancy and kept in working order.
- If a tenant reports a fault, landlords must repair or replace it as soon as reasonably practicable.
- Non-compliance can lead to fines of up to £5,000 per breach.

✅ Have your gas appliances AND CO alarms professionally inspected every 12 months.

✅ Ensure they're wall-mounted at head height, 1-3 metres from the appliance, per manufacturer instructions.
