It’s scorching out there, and our garden visitors are feeling the heat just as much as we are! ☀️
Water is the single most important thing you can provide for wildlife during a heatwave. If you’re looking for easy ways to help, here is how I’m keeping my garden guests hydrated..
For the birds: Place shallow dishes of water in a safe spot, away from lurking cats. If you are going to do this, please refresh and clean it daily to avoid the spreading of disease which is catastrophic for our bird populations.
For the bugs: Bees, butterflies and other insects get thirsty too. Pop a shallow dish out with pebbles or marbles inside - this gives them a dry landing or crawling spot so they can drink without the risk of drowning.
For the hogs: Hedgehogs are desperate for water right now. A simple, shallow bowl left out in the evening can be a literal lifesaver for our prickly friends.
It takes just a few minutes to set these up, but it makes a world of difference for our local wildlife.
