🪨 CEMETERY vs CHURCHYARD ⛪

Did you know that although cemeteries and churchyards both provide a peaceful place to remember a loved one, the rules surrounding memorials can be very different?

Cemeteries are generally managed by local councils or private cemetery authorities and often allow a wider choice of memorial designs, materials and sizes.

Churchyards, however, are managed by the Church and are subject to Diocese regulations. This means there are often stricter rules regarding the type, size and material of memorials that can be installed, and permission is required before any work can take place.

Understanding these differences can make the process much simpler.

Meet Sam Wooldridge

Co-Director / Office Manager

Sam has been part of W.W. Memorials since the very beginning and looks after the administrative and customer side of the business. From answering calls and emails to guiding families through the process, Sam is often the first point of contact and is there to support customers every step of the way.

His favourite part of the job?

Listening to the fond memories families share about their loved ones and being able to offer support during what can be a difficult time.

Outside of work, Sam is a proud family man who enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. He's also a self-confessed nerd who likes to unwind by playing computer games or chasing the next shiny piece of Pokémon cardboard!

Meet Penny Smart

In-House Memorial Artist

Penny has worked alongside W.W. Memorials for the past 4–5 years, helping to add a personalised touch to memorials through her hand-painted artwork.

Using her artistic skills and attention to detail, Penny creates beautiful bespoke designs that help make each memorial even more meaningful and unique.

Her favourite part of the job?

Hearing the lovely positive comments about her work and knowing that customers are happy with the finished result.

Outside of work, Penny enjoys going for walks, spending time outdoors, gaming, and exploring other creative hobbies, including wood burning and various arts and crafts.

Due to the severe weather warning currently in place, our office will be closing early at 2:00 PM on Wednesday 24th June and Thursday 25th June.

Jake has been part of the business since day one and is involved in just about everything that happens in the workshop. From gilding and blasting to erecting memorials, quality control and problem-solving, Jake helps keep both the workshop and the team running smoothly every day.

His favourite part of the job?

Creating lasting tributes for families and their loved ones.

Outside of work, Jake enjoys going to the gym, spending time with family and friends, and the occasional trip to the casino.

Meet Josh Lade
Driver / Trainee Memorial Mason

Josh has been part of the team for 9 months and plays an important role in both fitting memorials and assisting with the preparation work behind the scenes.

When he’s not out installing memorials, Josh helps the team with preparation tasks including cleaning, stencilling, masking, and painting — all the small details that help bring each memorial to perfection.

His favourite part of the job?
Visiting different cemeteries and seeing satisfied customers once the work is complete.

Outside of work, Josh enjoys socialising with friends and family, trying new food spots, and visiting new places.
