Game table 8'x4' splits into 2' lengths for different configurations. Double sided, this is the grass side, other side will be red rocky warranty badlands, but not yet its a lot of effort.

Mud is acrylic filler, black Amsterdam acrylic, brown, wood glue, water and seived fine sharp sand. Temu grass polyethelene grassy tufts ripped into chunks and embedded. Sealed with 1/4 wood glue/water through spray bottle

Wooden rim and risers to span undertable. Draw hinges on sides.

I might do some resin pours to give more wet, but may do this later!

A while back i got some cheap polyethylene flocked fabric from temu. Super cheap, designed for shop fronts to market green stuff. Following an idea I saw on YouTube to mount it to fabric (duck cotton) to make a rollable battlefield war mat. It was a partial success. Young family meant I didnt play any games on it tho

It wasn't a brill construction. The temu fabric came on a thick wad of polyethylene random weave backing fabric. Coupled with the duck cotton and the glue, it became quite thick and spongy. Models didnt really stand on it that well. I should have stripped it down to "just" the flock. Also I moved house and got a massive dining table (only 40" wide) . Standard old world play area 40" wide so obviously that was a massive problem.

Enter the outbuilding, now equipped with electrics and lighting; I needed to 'test' my new diy setup before embarking on any serious house diy.

Idea brain storming with Gemini AI. Draw hinges. Wooden rim. Cut up a 8'x4' 12mm ply panel into 4 bits. Used circular saw against rails to make the cuts, finished rough cut with table router. Centered some 25x38mm plain squared edge wood using screws and ruler. Covered screw heads with 9mm dowel. Got some 6mm dowels to help marry the edges when the panels were drawn together. Drilling hammer glue repeat. Hinges mounted. Don't forget dark oak stain (leftover pot) and 1 coat of varnish. Cut some further slats for underneath, to bridge the table. Dry. Stick it on table.

Still got to finish the underbridging slats for the other 2 panels. Now thinking about covering the faces.

Am leaning toward permanent green grass side vs rocky reddy brown arid dirt side. One could keep it flat and make modular panels to slip in. Could be tempted, storage would become a problem, and time. I can stack this flat under the bed without it rubbing.

So can make 2x 4' squared tables, or 1x 4'x6' or 4'x8'. Surprisingly solid. Will probably just leave the one 2x4 panel for the kids to play on, but steps have been taken to play old world. It is happening. Still got to paint those god damn knights. I think I have it in me.

Daughter made me paint one of her models. She did all the base coating, but struggled to put paint on the skin areas on this one for some reason, but i basically took what she did and added to it. I got the grass for her for these models but its taken over a year to do it, so was quite nice to help her glue the grass on and do the basing together. Was quite a fun model to paint. She's done the rest of them herself and is quite proud of her efforts.
