💙 The Gerard Bursary – A Legacy That Lives On 💙
At G&N Garage Doors, our name means so much more than just a business. Behind it is a man whose hard work, kindness and determination helped make G&N what it is today.
Gerard was an ordinary and amazing man, all rolled into one.
He didn’t have the easiest start in life and left school with very few qualifications, something he later regretted. But anyone who knew Gerard knew just how clever and capable he was. He could out-quiz most people, work out measurements in his head before you’d finished asking the question, and had an incredible talent for working with his hands.
Through informal apprenticeships, he discovered his love for carpentry and eventually took a leap of faith that led to the creation of G&N Property Services. Years later, deciding he was “too old and knackered to take the stress,” G&N Garage Doors was born.
Gerard built the business on more than hard work. He built it on kindness, community and helping people.
There were countless occasions when he would return from a job and say, “They were old; I couldn’t charge them. I was only there for 20 minutes.” That was simply who Gerard was.
Losing him so suddenly, just three months before he was due to retire, left a space in our family and our business that can never be filled. But from such an enormous loss, we wanted something positive to continue in his name.
🎓 And that is why the Gerard Bursary was created.
The bursary represents everything Gerard stood for: giving someone a chance, lending a helping hand and believing that where you start in life doesn’t have to determine where you finish.
You can do anything—you just need an opportunity.
We hope this bursary can be that opportunity for someone, helping them learn, develop their skills and build a future they can be proud of.
Gerard’s legacy will always live on through his family, through G&N, through the community he cared so much about, and now through every person this bursary is able to support.
We hope that wherever their journey takes them, recipients might occasionally think of Gerard while they’re working, knowing that, in his own way, he’s still there offering someone a helping hand. 💙
Thanks to the incredible generosity and love of Gerry’s family and friends, The Gérard Dubeau Bursary has now officially been launched and is secured for at least the next six years.
Each year, the bursary will support two Brighton MET students studying within the Construction department, giving them financial support and, most importantly, an opportunity they may otherwise not have had.
The Gerard Bursary — continuing a legacy of kindness, opportunity and giving people a chance.
