August has a habit of making us wildly optimistic about British weather.

We buy outdoor cushions.
We plan dinner outside.
Somebody says, “We could really make more of the garden.”

And actually… they might have a point.

It takes skill, experience and teamwork to safely unload and handle large, high-quality windows — and luckily, we've got plenty of all three. 💪

Our warehouse and installation teams have decades of combined experience, with many of our brilliant team members having been with us for decades 👏❤️

So why do we sometimes expect our windows and doors to just… soldier on?

These windows were installed over five years ago — and you'd honestly never believe it.

Why? Because their owner gives them a little TLC ❤️

A proper summer and winter clean, a check around the frames, keeping things free from dirt and debris, and making sure moving parts are properly looked after can all help keep your windows working as they should.

And if you live by the sea — hello Sussex! 🌊 — your windows have a little more to contend with. Salt-laden air, moisture, dirt and grime can all take their toll over time.

It's the same principle as your car:

❤️ Sometimes doing the right thing has absolutely nothing to do with getting the sale.

We had a visitor come into our showroom in Portslade recently with a problem.

Her front door handle had broken.
No handle = no properly usable front door. 😬
She'd already called an emergency service and had been charged £800.
For a door handle 😳
We thought that was… let's say… a little bit rich.
And what made it worse was that she was already upset and worried about her cat 🐱❤️

It wasn't our job.
She hadn't bought the door from us.
There was no invoice waiting to be written.

But honestly?
We couldn't just send her away.

So we picked up the phone. 📞
Called our contacts.
Got the right people involved.
And helped get her problem sorted.
No charge.
No sales pitch.
No "well, that's not our problem."
Just a little bit of old-fashioned "let's see if we can help." ❤️

And that's something we're rather obsessed with at R & D Goatley: giving people the best customer service we possibly can.

Because recommendations and word of mouth mean an enormous amount to a local business like ours.

And if helping someone who walked through our door with a problem — even when it isn't technically our problem — restores just a tiny bit of faith in the human race…
