This is the heat exchanger on a floor standing boiler all sooted up and causing excessive carbon monoxide entering the kitchen in which it was situated.The people at home were complaining of a headache and nausea. After a good service and clean the boiler was working perfectly and I placed a carbon monoxide detector in the kitchen so the home occupants will be alerted in future if it happens again but with regular serving it shouldn’t.
All the fins on the heat exchanger should be clean and clear allowing the flames and heat from the burner to pass freely through them, making the boiler run more efficiently and safely.

This hot weather is a good time for you to have a boiler service,as you are not using them as much and it won’t interfere as much when the cold weather comes and they are needed most the time.
