When The Customer Says… “Can You Do The Inside Too?” 🏡

It’s been another busy week for the Shaws teams across Brighton, Hove and Sussex, and one of our favourite projects has just grown even bigger.

🔨 Grange Rest Nursing Home – The Story Continues
Regular followers will know we’ve been building a brand-new orangery and garden room at Grange Rest Nursing Home. The roof lantern is in, the windows are fitted, the floor is prepped – and the space is already filling with natural light.

And here’s the best bit… the client is so pleased with how it’s coming along that they’ve asked us to take on even more: painting and decorating, bespoke wall panelling and new internal flooring. The team have already made a start on the panelling, and it’s looking very smart indeed.

There’s no better compliment than a customer asking you to do more. Thank you, Grange Rest!

Heritage Charm. Aluminium Performance.
Slimline black aluminium heritage windows and French doors, complete with Georgian bars and reeded glass. That classic steel-look style, with all the thermal performance and security of a modern system – and it looks just as good from the inside.

Garden Access, Times Three
This home now has several new sets of white French doors with flush sashes and matching side panels. Bright, secure and opening straight out onto the patio.

Triple Track = Two-Thirds Open
On a brand-new rear extension, we’ve fitted an aluminium triple-track patio slider. Three panels run on three tracks, so two glide neatly behind the third – opening up two-thirds of the width, rather than half with a standard two-panel slider. Slim frames, huge panes of glass, and garden views before the landscaping has even started!

Light From Above
A new roof with a glazed roof lantern, set into this flat-roof extension. Instant daylight for the room below.

Classic White, Done Right
Crisp white casement windows, including top-opening lights for easy ventilation. Proof that a classic never goes out of style.

Cleared For Take-Off… Shaws Head to the Airfield! ✈️

If you’ve been following us, you’ll know there’s rarely such a thing as a “typical” Shaws job. One week it’s a new front door in Hove, the next, a glazed roof at Brighton College or new windows at the Brighton Centre.

This week, our commercial team has taken things to new heights…

👷 On Site At Blackbushe Airport
We’ve been on site at Blackbushe Airport, working alongside Gatwick Construction on a brand-new aviation building. Hard hats on, drawings out, every opening measured, checked, and double-checked before the install. On a project this size, millimetres really do matter.

What We’re Supplying & Fitting
- Smart Wall aluminium doors and screens – a thermally broken commercial system with PAS 24 and LPS 1175 security ratings
- Large fixed screens up to 5.5 metres wide
- Fire exit doors with concealed panic bars (BS EN 1125)
- Anti-finger-trap doors and level double-ramp thresholds
- Ventilated louvre panels for the plant rooms

Commercial Doesn’t Have To Mean Boring
The doors and screens are dual-colour – anthracite grey inside and a warm copper brown outside, so they look the part as well as doing the job. Proof that your windows and doors don’t have to match inside and out… even on an airfield!

Safety Comes As Standard
On a working airfield, doors get serious use. Panic bars provide a fast, safe exit in an emergency, anti-finger-trap hinges protect hands, and level thresholds let staff wheel trolleys and equipment straight through.

It’s been another varied period for the Shaws team, featuring sleek aluminium, colourful entrance doors, traditional timber, vertical sliders and a seriously impressive roof lantern.

☀️ Now That’s a Roof Lantern!
The photographs follow this impressive installation from the original roof preparations through to the lantern being positioned, glazed and finished. The result is a striking feature that floods the space below with natural daylight.

🏗️ Heritage Window Project in Hove
Work is now underway at this heritage property in Hove. Projects like this require careful planning, with every proportion and detail needing to complement the original building. With the scaffolding up and removal work beginning, we’re looking forward to sharing the finished result!
