Just found this little wonder as I surveyed a fire damage job
It begs the question: Who legitimately thinks this was a good idea? A surface run double socket via a ‘surface’ plasterboard box but powered via a light 😳Such madness and so wrong

DANGER! Wow, even I was surprised by this little find after a client rang me for an emergency attendance. This is so, so BAD, someone had replaced the fuse wire (A Very important safety feature of an old fuse board, similar to a more modern trip switch or MCB/RCBO) with twisted standard cable. This cable exchange is so dangerous as in the event of a fault it's unable to break/blow and therefore disconnect the circuit. This cable prevents the safety aspects of a fuse and allows the fault to continue which results in the wiring overheating and the very real threat of a fire. This escalation can happen is a very short space of time. Luckily my client realised and turn off his fuse board and called me. The images above show the start of what could have been a fire and all the damage sustained the far with close up images of the cable which had replaced the fuse wire. So, so dangerous. If you have a fuse board of this type using re-wireable fuse carriers, please check the wires are actually fuses and not standard cable or even paperclips and ring me so I can survey and give you a quotation for changing the fuse board to a more up to date version.

SAFETY ALERT! Another close call. My client had an intermittent issue with power to a dish washer which upon investigation found this badly burnt plug and socket. It's always worth investigating these issues as there could be a bad situation like this waiting to cause a fire. FYI: This problem was caused by poor installation as the plug was physically touching the dishwasher (Causes friction and increased heat due to transference between the dishwasher and plug) and the kitchen designer didn't allow for the required airflow. Please contact me (07770880255) if you have any concerns or issues
