Alongside our residential and commercial construction work, we’re opening limited capacity for a small number of bespoke treehouse and woodland retreat commissions.

These projects offer something different: the freedom to explore beautiful timber construction, work sensitively around established trees and integrate ecological ideas—from native planting and nesting spaces to carefully considered habitats for local wildlife.

For us, this is an opportunity to combine design, craftsmanship and nature on a more intimate scale. A place to work, stay, retreat or simply be somewhere quieter—away from the pace and noise of modern life, held by the landscape and reconnected with the natural world we instinctively understand.

Based at Forest Hall in Nutley, close to Ashdown Forest, we work with experienced carpenters, specialist trades and arboricultural consultants to take each project from the initial idea through to construction.

Another project coming together beautifully in Meopham, situated directly opposite one of our other ongoing projects.

There is something particularly rewarding about seeing a building at this stage. We all appreciate the polished photographs at the end of a project—the finished kitchen, carefully selected materials and final decorative details—but for us, this stage represents much of what our work is really about.

The construction phase is where the drawings are tested in the real world. It is where the accuracy of the information, the clarity of the details and the coordination between different elements of the building become genuinely important. Seeing the structure successfully brought together provides an opportunity to reflect on how well our construction drawings have communicated the design and supported everyone responsible for delivering it on site.

The final craftsmanship and finishing touches will rightly belong to the contractors and tradespeople carrying out that work. Our responsibility is to help get the building structurally resolved, weatherproof and successfully through its most technically demanding stages—ready for those finishing touches to begin.

We've brought together the drawings, construction photographs and drone footage to show that relationship between information on the page and progress on site. For us, this is what it is all about.

Biodiversity Net Gain has changed — but what does that actually mean for small developers?

From 6 August 2026, developments on sites of 0.2 hectares or less are exempt from mandatory BNG, subject to important exceptions around priority habitat.

A welcome move towards proportionality — but exemption from BNG doesn’t mean exemption from ecological responsibility.

We’ve broken down the changes, what they mean in practice, and why biodiversity should ultimately be designed in rather than treated as another box to tick.

Build update - Hurstpierpoint

Take a look at this timber frame/clad rear extension on screw piles constructed by .bear. The Sapele hardwood cladding looks warm and ties in nicely with the red brick/tiles. The warm-wall construction (insulation over studs) provides a continuous thermal envelope and prevents cold bridging.
