12th Aug: Checking back I picked my first tomato about this time last year with the main harvest start around the 17th. We did have 150 plants & I’ve cut back dramatically on that. Will be enjoying this little globe with my lunch today.

5th Aug: I thought I was going to have to give up my allotment. I have to use a battery pump & hose to move water from the on site trough to my on plot tanks. My back won’t allow me to carry it that far. Our hosepipe ban came in on Monday. I’ve just had it confirmed that my on site use of a hose is exempt. It’s crazy, I’m feeling so relieved. 😁 Second cause for celebration- my first tomato has started to ripen.

28th July: Started the day cutting back the Wisteria tentacles that sprout everywhere & look like a wild hairstyle.
Sorted the home compost heap.
Then to the plot for more watering & to dig some Pink Fir Apple pots for dinner.

28th July: SO many butterflies flitting back & forth across the garden this morning. Some varieties that I’ve not seen here before. I think the constantly running water on our water feature also helps attract them.

27th July: Battling with a pyracantha is not without danger. The spikes are large. Ours, in the back corner behind the fig tree collapsed right across this area in the winter. It’s now upright & supported again. 20+ fig shoots from the roots also removed.
Then to the plot to water & gather a small harvest. Our first beetroot.

21st July: Despite the cloudy sky & cooler temperature I proved again this morning that my aging body can only take 2hrs of physical work at a time.
Main job today was a clean up & organise of tunnel 2. Very happy with the result.
