🤠 LET’S PUT COWBOY POLITICIANS OUT OF BUSINESS.

For years, British taxpayers have watched billions of pounds spent on failed schemes, broken promises, projects nobody asked for and decisions ordinary people never seem to have a say in.

Yet whatever happens, politicians still get paid.

So here’s an idea:

NO DELIVERY. NO PAY.

Builders are expected to deliver what they promise.

Businesses are expected to deliver what they promise.

Tradespeople are expected to deliver what they promise.

So why should politicians be different?

If you stand for election promising to deliver something, your pay should be linked to actually delivering it.

And while we’re at it, let’s remember whose money government is spending.

It’s OUR money.

HMRC collects money from the public. Government spends it on behalf of the public. Politicians should therefore be accountable to the people paying the bill.

No more blank cheques.

No more promises that disappear after election day.

No more rewarding failure.

🤠 TIME TO GET THE COWBOYS OUT OF POLITICS.

🇬🇧 PROMISE IT. DELIVER IT. THEN GET PAID.

How many people actually realise how much goes into running a building company? 🏗️💻
It isn’t just turning up on site, doing the work and going home.
There’s ordering materials before the job starts, collecting things during the job, arranging deliveries, organising subcontractors, dealing with Building Control, paperwork, quotations, invoices, emails, phone calls… and then there’s this. 😅
Today is technically my day off.
Except my quarterly VAT return is coming up, which means sitting in front of the laptop going through transactions and making sure everything is entered into the accounting software.
Materials we’ve purchased.
Subcontractors we’ve paid.
Plant and equipment.
Fuel.
Running costs.
Invoices.
Receipts.
And everything else that comes with keeping a building company running.
Why not do it during the week?
Because during the week I was probably building your job, quoting your job, ordering materials for your job, finding subcontractors for your job, speaking to the Building Inspector about your job, or doing the paperwork for your job. 😂
Running your own business means the work nobody sees often starts when the work everybody sees finishes.
Day off?
Apparently that’s something other people have. 😂

🏗️ DEPOSITS, BUILDERS & THE “COWBOY” PROBLEM

There’s been a lot of discussion today following Andy Burnham’s comments about tackling rogue builders — and as a building company, we wanted to add our perspective.

First, we fully support raising standards in our industry.

Cowboy builders hurt customers, but they also hurt reputable companies that invest in proper insurance, experienced trades, equipment, staff and doing things correctly.

However, we think there needs to be some caution around the discussion about builders taking deposits.

Taking a deposit does not automatically make somebody a cowboy.

On many of the projects we undertake, there are considerable costs before — or very shortly after — work begins.

We may need to secure specialist contractors, order materials, arrange skips and machinery, pay deposits to suppliers, organise Building Control and allocate labour specifically to that project.

On larger extensions and renovations, those commitments can quickly run into tens of thousands of pounds.

It simply isn't reasonable to expect a building company to finance those costs from its own cash reserves.

A professional contractor should have the financial stability to operate a business — absolutely.

But there is a big difference between being financially stable and providing an interest-free loan to fund somebody else's building project.

That's why we believe the conversation should be less about “Should builders take deposits?” and more about:

“How should customer money be protected and managed fairly?”

For us, the answer is transparency.

🏗️ A proper written quotation
📄 Clearly defined scope of works
💷 An agreed payment schedule
📆 Payments appropriate to the stage of the project
🧾 Documentation showing exactly what has been agreed
🤝 Responsibilities clearly understood by both sides

There should be protection for a homeowner handing over their money.

But equally, there should be protection for a contractor committing significant resources and taking on the responsibility of delivering their project.

We would welcome sensible regulation that helps remove rogue traders and raises professional standards across construction.

We have finish conversion of this garage in to stunning kitchen/dining room. Also original kitchen has been stripped back and turned in to a double bedroom and additional corridor was build where we have created little utility room.

Every builder has had this conversation...
🏡 "We'd like a full-width double-storey extension, aluminium windows, bifolds, a new driveway, patio, kitchen, bathroom... and our friend said it should all cost about £50k." 😅
It's all meant in good humour—but it does highlight why getting realistic advice and a rough budget before asking builders to spend hours preparing detailed quotations helps everyone.
If this made you smile, you've probably had this conversation before! 😂
👇 Builders... what's the most unrealistic budget you've ever been given?

One suggestion: End the video with a text overlay like:
"Builders... how many times have you heard this? 😂"

Week 2 on our mezzanine floor project is complete! 💪
This week we've successfully installed the 2.5-tonne main steel beam along with the remaining structural steel, completed the new mezzanine floor structure, and formed the openings for the new staircase and mezzanine access.
The project is moving on schedule, with the fire alarm system now being installed. Next week, the plasterers will be on site as we continue transforming the space.
Follow along to see this commercial refurbishment come to life!
