✨ P E O N Y P R O G R E S S ✨

🌸 Laying the w**d-proof membrane on our 2,600 Peonies continues 💪

🌸 Sean lays the membrane whilst I w**d the crown of the plants & cut down the Peonies, leaving around an inch of growth

🌸 We dispose of any Peony debris as we go, loading up the trailer ready for burning

🌸 It’s slow progress but we’ve almost finished our first row…Just 15 more to go! 🙊🙈😬😆

Dèja Vu 🙈

✨ After Storm Dara blew most of our w**d-proof membrane off our newly planted Peony field in 2024, we’ve decided to give it another go 💪

✨ With new membrane, more pegs and lots of time and perseverance, we’ll cover the field full of 2,600 Peonies, 1 at a time 💪

✨ Farming is NOT easy: fortitude, determination & resilience are our watchwords every single day

✨ We are tough (like our Peonies) and we’ll get there. It’ll all be worth it when the Peonies put on their show next may…At least that’s what we’re telling each other 😆

✨ It’s been a super busy week here on the farm with 200 ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ Peonies planted & the last orders of the season making their way to people’s homes ❤️

✨ Thank you so much for your support this year and for making 2026 my busiest year to date 🙏🏻

✨ Book now for my Christmas Wreath workshop at the stunning Llangoed Hall on Saturday 28th November, 6pm-8pm, £85.00 pp including a glass of prosecco and a mince pie with cream. All materials included 🌸

✨ There’s still lots of work going on behind the scenes as we work to turn much of River Meadow back into a garden 🥳 We are so excited to share it with you next year…!

🌸🌸 P E O N Y P L A N T I N G 🌸🌸

✨ It’s been a beautiful day here to plant some bare root Peonies ☀️

✨ We’re adding 200 ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ Peonies to our collection which now numbers 2,800!

✨ These beauties are a late-season pink variety, renowned for their large, generous-sized flowers and many-stemmed gorgeousness

✨ Remember to soak your bare roots for a couple of hours before planting and DO NOT plant them too deep: growing eyes should be just 1-2 inches below the soil. Any deeper than that and they’ll probably fail to flower

🌸 How joyful are these gorgeous flowers?

🌸 They’re native to Mexico so they LOVE the warm weather (but do water them as they can be thirsty plants!)

🌸 A fantastic ‘cut and come again’ crop (Remember to cut deep down into the plant when cutting flowers as this gets rid of the thick, unusable stems and encourages more flowers with thinner stems)

🌸 I leave all of mine in the ground for 3 years before lifting and dividing them (they’re huge by this time!)

🌸 Plant them somewhere well-drained and sunny & mulch in the winter to protect them

🌸 They are total slug magnets so protect new growth in the spring with wool pellets, eggshells, grit or get some chickens/ducks (they do the job brilliantly!)

✨ What should you be doing with them now?

✨ Looking a bit sad, brown and crispy? They’re ready to cut down!

✨ Cut them right back, leaving only a cm or so of stem and DISPOSE of all foliage (preferably burn it)

✨ Your Peonies will come back healthy and ready next year

✨ Here’s hoping for a cold winter that’s not too wet (Peonies hate sitting in winter wet)

✨ If yours hasn’t thrived for years, it may be in the wrong place. Think about moving it in the autumn when dormancy kicks in

✨ Flowers grown on the Edge of Epynt in September

✨ So much colour is still bursting out of the borders

✨ Despite a dreadfully challenging season with one of the worst droughts in UK history, the garden is still performing

✨ It’s amazing what can be grown on a hill farm where our lowest ground is 865ft and the highest (close to where the Peonies are) is 1100ft high 🌸

As my last full-on season nears an end, there’s finally time for life outside of flowers 🥳🌸

❤️ A trip to London with Mr D to explore:

- The Imperial War Museum (incredible!)

- The Rest is History Live at the Southbank Centre (the ultimate for history geeks like me!)

- Tapas, drinks near Westminster and lots of walking in the sunshine. Bliss!

💧 Thank you so much to all of our wonderful visitors today who donned their waterproofs and dodged the showers here today 🙏🏻 And nowhere does showers like Epynt 😂

✨ We were so thrilled with the turnout ❤️

🌸 The flowers are certainly looking well-watered now!

🌸 That’s it for visits this year, although private tours for groups of more than 10 people are still welcome. Please get in touch to book your date
