Back to school doesn’t just mark the start of a new term, it’s also the time to start planning for the next opportunity to improve school estates.

For many schools, the Christmas holidays provide a valuable window for building works without disrupting teaching. But making that window work starts with planning now.

Whether it’s additional classrooms, specialist learning spaces or temporary accommodation, early planning gives schools greater certainty around programme, budget and delivery.

With offsite construction, building manufacture and site preparation can happen at the same time, helping reduce time on site and minimise disruption.

The best way to deliver during the holidays? Start planning now.

When emergency services need new facilities, operations can't simply pause.

That's why speed, operational continuity and quality must go hand in hand.

Following irreparable damage to the existing training centre at Whitley Wood Fire Station, Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service needed a replacement that could be delivered quickly while allowing the station to remain fully operational.

Our solution? A two-storey, 870m² modular training and welfare facility, installed in just 4 days.

By manufacturing the building off site while completing groundworks simultaneously, we minimised disruption and delivered a modern, flexible space that supports firefighter training, day-to-day operations and community engagement.

As public sector organisations look to modernise critical infrastructure, modular construction is proving that fast delivery doesn't have to come at the expense of quality or operational resilience.

How much of the rain that falls on our buildings are we actually putting to good use?

In the UK, more than three billion litres of clean water are wasted every day, while demand on our water infrastructure continues to grow.

That's why rainwater harvesting is increasingly moving from a sustainability 'nice to have' to a building essential.

By capturing and reusing rainfall for non-potable purposes such as sanitation, cleaning and irrigation, organisations can reduce reliance on mains water, lower operational costs, support ESG objectives and improve resilience to extreme weather events.

The conversation around sustainable buildings often focuses on energy, but water deserves a place in that discussion too.

As we mark World Water Week, it's worth asking whether we're designing buildings that simply consume resources, or buildings that make smarter use of them.

🚨 Supporting those who support us 🚨

We were proud to support Withernsea’s Blue Light Weekend for the third year running, sponsoring this fantastic community event on 8–9 August.

The weekend brought the community together to celebrate and show gratitude to those working across our blue light, emergency, lifesaving and military veteran services.

Our team got involved across the weekend, helping support the event and taking part in some of the activities, including the raft race and mascot race. It was great to see so many people coming together and showing their support.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising the weekend, the volunteers who helped make it happen, and of course the emergency and lifesaving services who give so much to our communities. 💙

When we talk about creating sustainable school estates, the conversation often centres on energy use, heating systems and renewable technologies. All important topics.💡

But operational carbon is only part of the picture.

The reality is that the decisions made before a school even opens its doors can have a significant impact on its long-term environmental performance. From reducing embodied carbon through smarter construction methods to designing buildings that maximise energy efficiency from day one, sustainability should be considered throughout the entire building lifecycle.

At the same time, schools are under increasing pressure to reduce energy costs while progressing towards net zero targets. Technologies such as solar PV, heat pumps, rainwater harvesting and smart energy management systems can all play a role in reducing operational carbon and improving resilience.

The most effective approach isn't choosing between sustainable construction and clean energy. It's combining both.

By designing learning environments that are efficient, adaptable and future-ready, we can help schools reduce their environmental impact while creating better spaces for future generations to learn and thrive.🌱

To help free up space within the main hospital and improve patient experience, we worked with P+HS architects to deliver a 3,450sqm permanent outpatient facility for King's College Hospital.

The four-storey building provides 48 consultation rooms and eight procedure rooms, creating modern, purpose-designed clinical space while minimising disruption on a busy live hospital campus.
