Most bathroom cabinets look beautiful on day one. Six months later, half the shelf is wasted space and the worktop is covered in bottles that never found a home.

After 40 years of designing bathrooms across the North West, we've learned that storage rarely fails because of the cabinet. It fails because nobody counted what actually needed to live in there.

Three things worth thinking through before you commit to a single unit:

→ Count what you genuinely own (most people underestimate by 30 to 40 percent)
→ Choose shallow and wide over deep and narrow, so nothing disappears at the back
→ Put your daily-use items at eye level, with no door in the way

Good storage is invisible when it's working. You only notice it when it's wrong.

If you're planning a new bathroom and want to get this right from the start, pop into our Wilmslow showroom. We'll happily talk through your morning routine before we talk through cabinets. ✨

Most customers walk into our Wilmslow showroom thinking a wetroom is something clinical, complicated, or only for very modern homes.

So here's the honest definition: Wetroom (n.) /WET-room/ — a fully waterproofed bathroom where the shower floor is the room floor. No tray. No enclosure. No glass box in the corner.

What makes it work isn't what you see, it's what sits underneath. The whole area is tanked, meaning the floor and lower walls are sealed with a waterproof membrane before a single tile goes down. The floor is laid with a gentle fall toward the drain, so water always finds its way out cleanly.

After four decades of installing them across the North West, we'd say it's actually the simplest shower format we fit. Fewer moving parts. Fewer seals to fail. More usable floor space, which is why they suit smaller bathrooms and step-free designs just as well as the bigger ones.

If the word has been putting you off, pop into the showroom and stand in one. It tends to make a lot more sense in person. đź’§

"Do we need a full wetroom, or will a walk-in shower do?"

It's one of the most common questions we hear in the Wilmslow showroom. From the doorway, the two look almost identical. Frameless glass, open floor, no fussy threshold. The difference lives behind the wall and under the tiles.

A wetroom is fully tanked. The entire floor and lower walls are waterproofed, then tiled to a gentle gradient that drains into a linear or central waste. The whole room is the shower. Brilliant for awkward layouts, sloping floors, or anyone who wants a true zero-threshold finish that works beautifully now and in twenty years' time.

A walk-in shower sits inside a larger bathroom, built around a low-profile former or tray. Less structural work, easier on a retrofit, and it keeps a clear visual boundary between the wet zone and the dry one. For a standard floor build, it's often the smarter choice.

Neither is better. They suit different rooms, different builds, and different ways of living. After 40 years of designing bathrooms across the North West, we've learned the right answer starts with looking at your floor, your joists, and how you actually use the space.

Pop into the showroom and we'll walk you through both. đź’§

Customers walk into our Wilmslow showroom with a Pinterest board open on their phone, then apologise halfway through the appointment for "asking too many questions."

You never need to apologise for understanding what you're spending your money on.

A free design appointment is exactly the right moment to probe. Ask to see the tile at full scale before you commit. Ask what happens to the quote if the measurements shift once the walls come off. Ask for an itemised breakdown of labour versus materials, and ask which parts of the design are fixed and which you can still change.

Then ask the questions only 40 years of installs in North West homes can answer. Has this specific shower valve held up behind a stud wall? Will that large-format porcelain sit flat on the substrate you've got? How will the sealant behave around underfloor heating in five years' time?

Good designers welcome those questions. They're how a beautiful bathroom becomes a beautiful bathroom that still works a decade from now.

Bring the list. We'll bring the answers. ✨

Before we specify a single tile, we ask one quiet question: "What's behind this wall?"

It sounds simple. But the answer shapes everything that follows. If we're looking at plasterboard sitting inside a wet zone, we stop. No tanking membrane, no adhesive, no tile goes down until that substrate is re-boarded with something fit for water.

Plasterboard wasn't designed to live behind a rainfall shower. It flexes, it absorbs, and over time it lets movement travel through your grout lines. That's how a beautiful bathroom starts hairline cracking at the two-year mark, even when the tiling itself was done well.

A proper cement or foam backer board behind the waterproofing changes the maths entirely. Rigid, stable, water-tolerant. It's the difference between a bathroom that still looks crisp at ten years and one that quietly fails behind the scenes long before then.

Forty years of installations across the North West have taught us that the parts you never see decide how long the parts you love actually last. We'd rather slow down at the substrate stage than apologise at the silicone stage.

If you're planning a project and wondering what's behind your own walls, pop into the Wilmslow showroom. We'll talk you through it honestly, before anything gets specified.

Two showers can look almost identical in a photograph, yet sit on completely different builds beneath the tiles.

That's where most of the confusion starts. A client shows us an inspiration image, asks for "that wetroom look," and we end up having an honest conversation about what's actually underneath the floor.

A walk-in shower sits on a low-profile tray or stone resin base, with a glass panel defining the zone. It's the right call for most existing bathrooms in the North West, where joists, subfloors and ceiling heights below already dictate what's realistic. Quicker to install, kinder to the budget, and beautiful when done well.

A wetroom is a different build entirely. Walls and floor are fully tanked, the floor is laid to a precise fall toward a linear drain, and the tiling runs seamlessly from one side of the room to the other. It needs the right substrate, the right drainage route, and ideally the space to let that open finish breathe. Larger bathrooms and new builds are where wetrooms truly come into their own.

After 40 years of fitting both, our advice is simple: choose the build that suits your space, not the photograph that caught your eye. Pop into the Wilmslow showroom and we'll walk you through both, honestly. đźšż

Modern bathroom design from concept to reality.
A completely different direction from the traditional marble scheme.

This modern bathroom is all about clean lines, natural textures and understated luxury, proving that a bathroom doesn’t need to be overly decorative to make an impact.

What I love about this approach is the versatility.

Once the layout and key pieces are established, the entire personality of the bathroom can change simply by introducing a different tile, vanity colour or metal finish.

Think soft stone and olive green for a calm, spa like feel or switch to warm terracotta and natural oak for something richer and more characterful.

The mood board lets you explore those possibilities before committing, seeing how the colours, materials and finishes work together and, most importantly, how the finished bathroom could actually feel.

Same space. Different materials. Completely different atmosphere.

That’s what makes the design process so exciting.

From mood board to finished bathroom inspiration.
This is where the design process gets exciting.

Starting with a mood board allows us to bring together the materials, textures, colours, finishes and key pieces before the room even begins to take shape.

For this scheme, we explored a timeless combination of rich veined marble, a traditional walnut floor standing vanity, classic white sanitaryware and brushed gold/bronze brassware, creating a bathroom that feels warm, elegant and full of character but the beauty of a mood board is that one design can become so many different bathrooms.

Change the marble from black and cream to rich maroon and cream, and suddenly the whole atmosphere changes. Swap the tile style, introduce a different basin unit, alter the brassware or soften the palette and you have an entirely new look while keeping the same overall design concept.

The mood board lets you see the possibilities before making the final decisions and gives you the freedom to explore what could work best for your space.

That’s the magic of bringing a design to life.

Classic, contemporary, warm, dramatic and the same space can tell a completely different story simply by changing the materials and colour palette.

Which version would you choose?

From concept to reality.
This design journey showcases the perfect blend of organic warmth and modern luxury. The moodboard sets a serene tone, featuring a palette of sage green, soft pink, and natural wood, all tied together by striking brushed gold hardware. Geometric star patterned floor tiles provide a playful yet sophisticated base, while vertical wall tiles add a contemporary architectural edge. This tactile approach is balanced with lush greenery and woven textures, creating a space that feels both grounded and high end.

The overhead CAD drawing brings this vision to life, demonstrating how these elements harmonize in a functional layout. The freestanding slipper bath serves as a luxurious focal point, perfectly positioned against the star motif flooring. Every detail from the moodboard, the sage vanity, the round gold rimmed mirror, and the delicate lighting is meticulously placed to maximize both style and flow. This transition from curated textures to a precise floor plan proves that a well considered design makes all the difference in creating a dream sanctuary.
