Charli surveyed Fakenham Parish Church and, in this video, talks through what was really going on.

The old system could be running for hours and people were still cold. The building was difficult to heat, expensive to keep warm and needed a different approach.

A good example of why running cost on its own doesn’t always tell you whether a heating system is actually doing the job.

The infrared heating costs more to run than the old gas system. And yet, for Fakenham Parish Church, it was still the right decision.

The gas heating had to be switched on 24 hours before the building was used and, even then, the church still wasn’t warm enough.

A year after switching to infrared, Charli returned during winter and recorded 18°C at ground level.

The church is now warmer, easier to control and producing far fewer CO₂ emissions.

Heating a listed church is never quite straightforward.

At St Margaret of Antioch church, we needed to heat the space while working around the existing architecture and keeping fixing points to a minimum.
