Behind the scenes here at Image Restore, I've had some interesting projects come through lately, family archives, damaged negatives, A book project and images for TV. I can't always talk about who they're for, but the work itself never gets old.

If you've got a photo that needs the same attention, send it over. I'd love to see what we I do with it.

I restored this photo of a WWII Halifax bomber called Sierra-Sue. It arrived torn, stained, barely holding together.
The aircraft belonged to Sergeant Maurice "Bobby" Singer, an air gunner trained in Oklahoma and Canada, flying as tail gunner on missions over Germany. He was 21 when his aircraft, LK759, was shot down on 25 February 1944 after a German night fighter caught the crew in a spin.

Flying Officer Thompson was the only man to survive, ordered out by the crew as the aircraft went down. Six men died that night. Sergeant Frederick Barker. Pilot Officer Kenneth "Higgy" Hignett. Pilot Officer Albert "Paddy" Middleton. Flight Lieutenant James "Taffy" Milton. Flying Officer Alfred Wilson Shirley.

Sergeant Maurice "Bobby" Singer. They were buried together first in Bueren, Germany, and later moved to Cologne Southern Cemetery. Bobby's nephew brought me this photo along with one of Bobby himself as a sergeant. I've written the full story and the restoration process on the blog, link in comments.
Lest we forget.

Just found this London Airport Photo - 1967 photo in my collection only 1 year before....

On 2 August 1968, Alitalia Flight 660, a Douglas DC-8 flying from Rome to Montréal with a stopover in Milan, crashed into Mount San Giacomo near Vergiate while on approach to Milan-Malpensa Airport during a severe thunderstorm. Electromagnetic interference from the storm clouds caused the crew to misjudge their position relative to the ILS signal, leading them to line up with the wrong runway. When the captain realised the error, he attempted a go-around, but the aircraft couldn't gain altitude and struck the mountain tail-first. Remarkably, everyone aboard survived the initial impact, but 12 of the 95 occupants died when the fuel-laden aircraft caught fire afterwards. The subsequent investigation attributed the crash to a combination of pilot error, air traffic control error, and instrument interference, classifying it as a controlled flight into terrain (CFIT). source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alitalia_Flight_660

"I definitely agree with the five-star rating Neil has. He restored some photos of my late wife from her childhood. The photographs were quite badly damaged, particularly one, and they look great now. Thank you, Neil."

Did you know that temperatures in a typical loft can easily skyrocket to over 40°C during warmer months? Softening photo and negative emulsion!

Here are two old negatives wrinkled from heat. An Extreme shift in temperatures is not your friend.

"UNBELIEVABLE ! . What a job Neil did. Not only were the communications impeccable but the end result of the restoration of a faded Polaroid was incredible. Neil has managed to be bring an old and very dear friend back into my life."

Neither the client nor I knew where this was, Google image search didn't either. I asked around, and a friend recognised it. Some streetview research later, and the correct perspective was used for the tower. Blackpool Pleasure Beach Casino.

The client was told he looked like Freddy Mercury before Freddie had a similar shoot done. Did Freddie steal his look?

I was supplied with many images and styles to incorporate. Happy Client!
