Where do you even start with someone like Pete?
Pete and our father, Yakub, go back a long way. They were very close in the late 80s and early 90s, and when Tile Mart took off and we needed building, demolition and skip services, Dad introduced us to Pete.
He helped build our first showroom on Manchester Road. Although, if we're being honest, he probably did more demolishing than building! 😂
Reading through all the tributes over the last couple of days, one thing keeps coming up. Pete was larger than life, and he was someone who simply never said no. He had an amazing personality, was always willing to help and would always find a way to get things sorted.
Even recently, when he was helping us with the groundwork at our farm, he would always ask about Dad. Every single time, it was, "How's Yakub doing?" It's a small thing, but it says so much about the person he was.
With Pete, everything was simple, straightforward and practical.
He was a proper gentleman, a character in every sense of the word, and someone who leaves behind a lot of memories and a lot of people who will miss him dearly. It'll certainly take some getting used to not having him around.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Pete's family and all his friends. From our family to yours, we're thinking of you all at this difficult time.
