When we need rubbish removing, the first thing most of us ask is:
"How much?"
Perhaps we should also ask:
"What happens to it afterwards?"
Fly-tipping incidents in England are rising. Legitimate waste disposal costs are increasing. And the Government is introducing tougher penalties and enforcement against illegal waste disposal.
We don't want to preach about it.
We just think customers deserve to understand what happens to their waste once it's out of sight.
We've taken a proper look at the numbers, what's happening in the waste industry and why ultimately we all pay when waste isn't dealt with properly.

💷 Why does getting rid of rubbish cost so much?
It's a fair question.
Recently, our own waste disposal costs increased by £30 per tonne.
And disposal is only part of it.
There's collection, vehicles, fuel, staff, sorting, recycling, machinery, licensed facilities and dealing correctly with whatever can't be recovered.
We work hard to keep our prices competitive, but there's a cost attached to doing things properly.
That's why when a waste removal price seems extraordinarily cheap, there's nothing wrong with asking:
How can they do it for that?
Cheap doesn't automatically mean wrong.
But it's a reasonable question.

We understand that.
You've got a garage full of rubbish. Someone offers to take it away cheaply. They load the van, you pay them and your problem disappears.
Except the waste hasn't disappeared.
It's just changed hands.
That's why we'd encourage everyone using any waste removal service to ask one simple question:
Where is my waste going?
A responsible operator won't mind you asking.
Your waste. Our responsibility.

That's how many fly-tipping incidents councils in England dealt with in just one year.
Up 9% on the year before.
And around 777,000 involved household waste.
It's easy to think fly-tipping is someone else's problem.
Until it's dumped down your road, on a local farmer's land or at the entrance to an industrial estate.
Somebody always ends up dealing with it.
And somebody always ends up paying for it.
Your waste. Our responsibility.

We collect it for a living, after all.
But something is happening in the waste industry that we think is worth talking about.
The cost of disposing of waste properly continues to rise.
At the same time, fly-tipping across England is rising too.
We're not saying one causes the other.
But over the next few posts, we're going to share some figures that surprised even us.
Because once your rubbish leaves your driveway, it still has to go somewhere.
