Quadrant timber frame gazebo designed and built this month in West Wittering, West Sussex. Timber grown and milled within 20 miles of site.

This curved design provides shade from the sun during the heat of the day.

So. It begins.

We have been instructed to begin phased restoration and conservation of this historic domestic dwelling.

This wall was previously covered in modern Portland cement which in generally not advised for historic structures.

The timber sole plate and parts of the vertical studs in this partition wall had fallen victim to a significant case of dry rot. This left the masonry infil panels with bulges, significant cracks and plenty of wobble. (They were ready to fall out). All of this was made worse by the fact that someone had tried to remove the former wall covering with a large hammer and cold chisel.

After supporting and stabilising the top sections in masonry we set about clearing away the rotten timber sections and shaping the scarf joints to accept a replacement sole plate and a number of stud sections.

Masonry was reinstalled in stages, using lime putty based mortar mix. Once it had time to cure sufficiently the bracing was removed and masonry finished. Both faces of the brickwork panels were cleaned and had a ‘slurry-coat’ of lime based mortar applied to fill all of the small gaps in the masonry.

Once the lime wash is applied and the timber is cleaned and oiled, it shall, once again be ready to stand for many more decades to come.

This summer house in Petworth is around 15 years old and was rotting near the ground.

Each of the posts was removed and repaired before being re-installed.

The five door frames were remade on site and replaced before rehanging the refurbished doors.

The panelling to the rear was machined to match existing and replaced.

New double glazed units and beads to the doors and a new upgraded floor means that it is ready for decorating in the coming weeks

Once decorated it will be ready for the owner to enjoy into late summer, and beyond, with friends and family for years to come.

Last year we were approached by a client who was in the process of renovating a Grade II listed property in Sussex.

We came to site and provided this panelling throughout their stair well. The design was intended to add a durable surface covering that aesthetically compliments the open plan kitchen and doors throughout the property.

Now that the project has reached completion and the dust has settled, these images show that panelling still has a place in modern interiors.

We focused on ensuring the backing boards were flat after meticulously setting out the grid pattern to ensure equal spacing and complete coverage of joints between backing boards.

The grid sections were precisely cut to width from MDF and all edges were hand planed to remove blade marks and ‘fluff’. We utilised our knowledge and experience to ensure that this panelling will remain in place as crisp and accurate as when we installed it. We reviewed our methods to reduce filling and sanding of the many joints and fixing holes which saved considerable time, materials and cost for our client. This results in a better finish overall.

The original flight of stairs was of questionable construction and beginning to rot away. We completely replaced the structure ensuring that it should last for decades in this coastal location. Upgraded frame design, concealed fixings and glued joints as well as careful application of high quality preservative and anti-slip finishes complete this project.

The Mancave in Liss. Aged timber cabin was given a new composite deck, frame and handrails. Internally we formed a water closet, insulated walls and loft space, trimmed window reveals and boarded and plastered before decoration and new flooring. All in time to set up the large screen for viewing the World Cup with friends and family.
