📺 Evolution on DIY SOS

Last summer, the Evolution team had the privilege of being part of a very special DIY SOS project, helping create a home that would allow Dan to finally return home to his family.

After life-saving surgery for a brain tumour, Dan was left with complex disabilities and spent nearly three years in hospital as his family home couldn’t accommodate his care needs.

In just one week, an incredible team of contractors, tradespeople and volunteers came together to transform the family’s new home. Our Evolution team was proud to play a part, with several members of the team helping throughout the week, particularly with the electrical work as well as supporting other areas of the build.

It was an emotional and rewarding week that we won’t forget. Most importantly, it was all about bringing Dan home. ❤️

Now, we finally get to see the finished project on screen.

What a fantastic achievement. 👏

Congratulations to The Boathouse Youth and everyone involved in another incredible Party Night, which raised an amazing ÂŁ60,000 to support young people across Blackpool and the Fylde Coast.

The evening brought together businesses, organisations and supporters from across the region for a brilliant night of fundraising, all in support of a cause that makes a genuine difference in our communities.

One of the most powerful parts of the evening was hearing first-hand about the impact The Boathouse Youth has on the lives of young people. The stories shared were a reminder of why this work matters and why the support of local businesses is so important.

The Evolution team was proud to be in the room and to support such an inspiring event.

Well done to everyone who helped make the night such a success. ❤️

🌟 Supporting Young People Into Employment

Today, two of our Evolution team Dave Spalding and Warren Kashem spoke at the Pride of Place Responsible Business Network event Blackpool FC, sharing their experiences of how meaningful workplace opportunities can help shape young people's futures.

The event focused on how businesses and organisations across Blackpool and the Fylde Coast can play a role in supporting young people into employment.

We also heard from keynote speaker Alun Francis OBE, Chief Executive of Blackpool and The Fylde College and Chair of the Social Mobility Commission, who shared his insights on education, social mobility and tackling place-based inequalities through opportunity. 🎓

For us, this is a topic close to home. Warren joined Evolution on a work experience placement after attending Educational Diversity's Athena School in Blackpool. What started as an opportunity to gain practical experience led to a four-year electrical apprenticeship, and today he is building a successful career while studying at Blackpool and The Fylde College.

Warren's journey shows the difference that the right support, guidance and opportunity can make. 👏

We are all determined to do more to help young people across Blackpool get their first steps on the employment ladder.

đź’¬Dave Spalding said: "It's all about giving people chances. It's about looking beyond people's CVs. Everyone can find 30 minutes in their week to meet someone face to face."

đź’¬ Warren Kashem said: "The opportunity that Evolution has given me has changed my life. Even if someone hasn't got the qualifications, they can still absolutely shine and make a big positive difference to a business. So I would say, just give young people a chance."

A big thank you to Michelle Walker, Andy Anderson, Matthew Allen and all the team at FCRBN for bringing together businesses, educators and community partners to discuss how we can create brighter futures for young people across the Fylde Coast.

đź’™ Creating Opportunities for Young People

Evolution recently attended the Youth Guarantee Work Experience Event at Blackpool Jobcentre Plus, where she interviewed four young people who are currently not in education, employment or training (NEET) and have expressed an interest in the construction sector.

We're delighted to be offering each of them the opportunity to complete two weeks of work experience with Evolution, with placements taking place throughout September, October and November.

With almost one million young people across the UK currently classed as NEET, creating opportunities and opening doors has never been more important. That's why we're proud to be playing our part, helping local young people gain valuable experience, build confidence and explore future careers within our industry. 🙌

We're looking forward to welcoming these young people to the Evolution team over the coming months and supporting them as they take their next steps.

A huge thank you to Department for Work and Pensions - DWP, Job Centre Plus and everyone involved in organising the event and connecting young people with local employers.

Helping an iconic Blackpool landmark shine again

We're proud to have played a key role in the refurbishment of Blackpool's iconic Wedding Chapel (Your Blackpool Wedding), helping restore one of the resort's most recognisable buildings ahead of its 15th anniversary.

📍 Located on the Promenade opposite Blackpool Tower, the award-winning venue has welcomed more than 6,000 couples since opening in 2012.

Led by Contracts Manager Ben Reader, our team carried out extensive works at the start and end of the project.

Ben said: "The Wedding Chapel has a really striking design with an overhanging cantilevered balcony. None of our team had worked on anything like it before. It was a really interesting project to be involved in."

đź‘· The project also provided valuable experience for the next generation of construction professionals, with two Evolution apprentices involved in the works.

Ben added: "We were the first team on site and the last team off it. It was very satisfying to have been there at the beginning and be back there to complete it."

🤝 A fantastic project to be part of, working with Blackpool Council to help preserve a landmark that holds a special place in the hearts of thousands of couples and visitors.

Led by Evolution Contracts Manager Ben Reader and delivered by the Evolution team of 36 skilled tradesmen, the transformed facility now features new equipment from EGYM, Matrix Fitness (UK) and Innerva, alongside an enhanced gym environment for members.

Ben said: "We are all really proud of the work we have done at Moor Park Leisure Centre. It's been a complete refurbishment and we are really impressed with the way it looks."

🏠 At Evolution we’re always delighted to give young people work experience and an insight into what a career in construction involves.

This summer we have supported seven students, aged 14-16, from the Blackpool area on work experience.

All have been a credit to themselves, their families and their teachers and schools, and have done themselves proud. 👏

Among them is Lucas, from Fleetwood High School, who has spent a week on work experience with us, and then two days a week all through the summer holidays.

Lucas, who enjoys ICT and all the science and maths STEM subjects at school said: “I have really enjoyed it. It has given me a real insight into what the world of work is like and what you do every day. I have definitely learned new skills as well. Everyone has been so welcoming and has always been happy to answer any questions I have. It has been great and hopefully it will help me when I come to start out in my career.”

We are also working with the Department for Work and Pensions - DWP to provide work experience placements under the “Youth Guarantee” scheme, which aims to give 18-21-year-olds who have spent 18 months or more on Universal Credit, the opportunity for paid work placements to help them get into employment.

We have agreed to block out two weeks every quarter to provide young people from across our community with this important opportunity to gain experience of the world of work.đź’Ľ

JJ Fitzgerald, our Managing Director, said: “I think we all realise that these can be challenging times for many young people, and if we can do our bit to help them on their road to finding a job, and an opportunity to build their lives, then we believe it is absolutely the correct thing to do. We look forward to welcoming them to Evolution and hopefully inspiring them about what doors a career in construction can open.”

We're proud that our recent contract success in Blackpool has created new opportunities for local people, with Kevan Holland and Ryan Hellewell recently joining the Evolution team.

Kevan brings more than 20 years of industry experience to our electrical maintenance team, while Ryan helps coordinate our maintenance and Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) work for Blackpool Coastal Housing.

Away from work, Kevan enjoys family time, dog walks and following Blackpool FC, while Ryan loves beach walks on the Fylde Coast and is a keen banger racing fan.

Speaking about Evolution, Kevan said: "The whole team at Evolution is great to work with."

Ryan added: "I love this place. The whole atmosphere. The vibe where everyone works together as a team."

Their colleague helpdesk coordinator Stuart Whittaker-Smith said: "They have both fitted in really well and are both integral members of the team. It’s a great team here. It really does feel like family."

We're delighted to have Kevan and Ryan on board and look forward to seeing them continue to grow with Evolution. 👏

From workplace experience to panel stage at national launch.

Not every young person finds their place in mainstream education.

For Warren, school was challenging. Living with autism, the classroom environment wasn’t where he felt most comfortable. Warren attended Educational Diversity, Athena School, in Blackpool. It was during this time that Warren was given the opportunity to spend one day a week on workplace experiences with Evolution, following his interest in becoming an electrician.

That opportunity made a real difference.

With the support of the team, Warren grew in confidence, developed practical skills and began to find a routine that worked for him. His placement increased to two days a week, and with it came greater focus and motivation to continue his education.

Warren said:

“The work experience placement was such an important step in my life. Without it, I don’t think I would have finished school, and I definitely wouldn’t be where I am now.”

Warren is now a thriving electrical apprentice, a journey that shows how the right opportunity, at the right time, can change everything.

Today (12 June), Warren returned to Educational Diversity in Blackpool to share his experience as part of the national launch of the Aspiring Pathways programme, which is designed to expand access to high-quality, meaningful workplace experiences for young people in Alternative Provision (AP). Warren spoke about his education journey, offering a real-life perspective that others can relate to.

Our Managing Director, JJ Fitzgerald, said:

“We’re passionate about giving young people a chance and supporting them to build a future. Warren’s journey shows the impact that the right support, at the right time, can have.”
