September 2026 - Vange Surface Water Attenuation Scheme, Basildon. The construction of a flood detention basin (temporary flood storage) within the playing fields at Vange Primary School, Basildon. The flood detention basin will reduce the flood risk to the downstream areas of Vange by collecting run-off from the surrounding higher ground to the north of the school . It will generally be dry and only fill temporarily during storm events.
The basin outlet pipe will discharge into an existing ditch which is
connected to the surface water network via a headwall. The basin and bunds were formed using a balance of excavation & fill of existing material on site and plastic piles were installed to reinforce the bunds of the south & east sides. FSL devised an alternative access to the works from a bridlepath corridor to the east of the site, removing any potential interface problems with the school.
