💜 Proud to support Team Solan Cancer Trust 💜

Really proud to see Anderson’s Landscapes & Resin Bound Driveways on the Team Solan van!

Over the last little while, we’ve had the opportunity to support Team Solan by giving our time and labour free of charge to help some of their Warriors with jobs they need doing.

For me, this is about much more than getting our business name on a van.

If giving up a day or two of our time can take a bit of pressure off somebody going through one of the hardest periods of their life, then it’s time well spent.

Through supporting Team Solan, not only have we been lucky enough to have our business represented on their van alongside some other brilliant local businesses, but more importantly, we’ve been given the opportunity to genuinely make a difference to somebody’s life.

Running a local business isn’t always just about making money. Sometimes you’re in a position where you can use your skills, your lads and your equipment to help somebody who really needs it — and I’m proud that we’re able to do that.

A massive thank you to Mark and everyone involved with Team Solan for allowing us to be part of what you do. 💜

Another little natural stone area completed in Toronto, Bishop Auckland 👌🏼

It’s always a great sign when a customer calls you back for more work!

We recently completed a new pathway and small patio area for this couple using natural Indian sandstone. They were so pleased with the finished result that we were asked back to tackle another small area alongside the greenhouse.

The existing concrete and concrete slabs underneath were all solid and stable, so rather than unnecessarily ripping everything out, we were able to prepare the area correctly and overlay it with matching natural stone.

We tied the new section into our previous work, making use of the different colours, tones and textures you naturally get with Indian sandstone. Once wet, you can really see how much character there is in every individual slab 😍

A relatively small job, but it’s made a massive difference to what was previously a tired concrete area — and now everything flows together nicely.

Most importantly, another happy returning customer! 🙌🏼

We’ll be back out on our regular maintenance and grass cutting rounds from Monday 7th September! 🌱✂️

As we head into the autumn and winter months, now is a great time to get your garden onto a regular maintenance schedule and keep everything tidy and under control ready for next year.

We’re opening up a few spaces on our maintenance round for new customers. Whether you need regular grass cutting, hedge trimming, weeding, general garden maintenance or just keeping on top of things through the quieter months, we can put together a schedule to suit your garden.

Getting started over winter also means we can have everything prepared and ready to go when spring arrives. 🌷☀️

🌿 Newcastle City Centre Planter Transformation 🌿

Another commercial project completed in the heart of Newcastle for Almero! 👌

We were brought in to completely refresh and replant three large commercial planters, turning tired spaces into clean, low-maintenance planted areas that will continue to fill out and improve as they establish.

The job involved removing the existing material, preparing and filling the planters with fresh topsoil, installing membrane, planting a carefully selected mix of shrubs and plants, and finishing everything off with a decorative bark layer.

A big thank you to the local businesses who helped us get this one over the line:

🚜 Joe and the team at NGJ plant & tool hire — for supplying the tracked barrow, which was a massive help shifting materials around a busy Newcastle city-centre site.

🌱 Vanessa at Sam Turner and Sons — for sourcing all of the plants for us and helping make sure we had the right selection for the job.

Working in a busy city-centre location always brings its own logistical challenges, but everything came together nicely and we’re really pleased with the finished result.

💙 Giving Something Back with Team Solan Cancer Trust 💙

Recently, Mark from The Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust, who I’m lucky enough to have in my BNI group, got in touch and asked if we could lend a hand to one of their Warriors, Glen.

Glen has an allotment that needed a good amount of waste clearing and removing, so we were more than happy to get involved and help get it sorted for him. 💪

A big thank you to Joe Collingwood at NGJ plant & tool hire for helping us with the micro digger, and Kathrine at Ashcourt Group for arranging the skip. It’s great when local businesses can work together to help someone out. 👏

For this job, Anderson’s Landscapes & Resin Bound Driveways covered all of the labour costs, with myself and my two nephews, Joseph Watson and Sam Anderson, giving our time to get the work completed.

The only costs passed on to Team Solan were the micro digger hire, skip hire and fuel — all labour was completely free of charge.

Team Solan do some incredible work supporting people and families affected by cancer, so when Mark asked if we could help one of their Warriors, it was an easy yes.

Massive well done to Joseph and Sam for getting stuck in too. Proud to have you both helping out. 👏

Hopefully Glen can now get back to enjoying his allotment and making the most of the space. 🌱

One of the reasons we love working with natural stone 👌🏼🪨

Take a closer look at the colours, markings and even the fossils we found running through the Sahara Indian Sandstone on our recent Evenwood project.

Unlike manufactured paving, no two pieces of natural sandstone are exactly the same. Each slab has its own variations in colour, texture, veining and markings, formed naturally over millions of years — meaning every patio has its own character.

But there’s a bit more to it than simply putting the slabs on the ground!

Before laying, we sort through the packs and mix the slabs from different crates and layers to get a good spread of colours and sizes across the finished patio.

The paving is then laid onto a full mortar bed, with every slab receiving a slurry primer on the underside before it goes down. This creates a much stronger bond between the natural stone and the mortar bed and helps prevent slabs becoming loose or lifting in the future.

Once everything has been laid, cut and given time to set, the joints are finished — on this project we used a granite coloured jointing compound which really complements the different tones in the Sahara stone.

It’s the natural variation that makes Indian sandstone so impressive. Browns, buffs, greys, creams and warmer tones all mixed together, then every now and again you turn a slab over and find a fossil that’s been sitting there for millions of years! 🤯🦪

Natural stone isn’t supposed to look identical — that’s exactly what makes it special. 🙌🏼
