🔥 It’s officially manic at Afterglow! 🔧

What a week! We’ve managed to get through all our scheduled jobs while juggling a constant stream of calls, emails, WhatsApps and quotes! 😅

And somehow I’ve survived it all while battling a life-threatening case of man flu! 🤧😂

On a serious note, apologies if I’m taking a little longer than usual to reply. I’m doing my best to get back to everyone while keeping things running smoothly.

A massive thanks to the lads for another cracking week’s work and to all our customers for keeping us so busy!

Have a great weekend everyone! 🍻

🚿 Bathroom Upgrade – Kings Heath

This one wasn’t a full bathroom renovation — our customer just wanted to make better use of the space and give the room a fresh new look.

We installed a new basin and vanity unit better suited to the room, repositioned the toilet and heated towel rail, and finished everything off with new luxury vinyl click flooring.

A relatively small upgrade compared with a full bathroom refit, but it’s made a big difference to how the space looks and works for our customer. 👌

🚿 Making Showering Safer & Easier

This week we’ve been working in Hodge Hill, Birmingham, transforming this customer’s old shower cubicle into a much more practical and accessible walk-in shower area.

Our customer had been finding it increasingly difficult to help her husband, who is living with dementia, get safely in and out of their existing shower enclosure. The old cubicle simply wasn’t practical for their needs anymore.

We removed the old enclosure and created a spacious walk-in shower, with easier access, a large fixed glass screen and grab rail, giving our customer much more room to safely assist her husband when showering.

It’s not always about completely changing a bathroom — sometimes the right alterations can make a huge difference to someone’s everyday life and independence at home.

A lovely transformation and, most importantly, a bathroom that now works much better for our customers. ❤️

🐝 Why You Should Still Run Your Boiler During the Summer! 🐝

This is a Worcester Bosch boiler we attended recently… and believe it or not, it’s less than a year old!

The customer hadn’t used their heating since April, and during that time a colony of wasps found a way inside the boiler and built this enormous nest around the heat exchanger.

The first clue we had? As soon as I removed the front cover, I was attacked by a swarm of angry wasps! Safe to say I wasn’t expecting that on a routine breakdown call! 😅

Thankfully, Worcester Bosch have agreed to replace the damaged internal components, saving the customer from what could have been a very expensive repair.

💡 Top Tip: Even in the summer, switch your heating on for 10–15 minutes every couple of weeks.

Doing this helps:
✅ Keep the pump and valves from seizing.
✅ Identify faults before winter arrives.
✅ Keep the boiler circulating and in regular use.
✅ Reduce the chance of insects making your boiler their new home!

A boiler that’s left unused for months is far more likely to develop problems just when you need it most.

If your boiler hasn’t been serviced recently, or you’d like peace of mind before winter, give Afterglow Plumbing & Heating Ltd a call. We’re Worcester Bosch Accredited Installers covering Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

📞 Don’t wait until the first cold morning of the year to find out your boiler has a problem!

🫡 A big thank you to our dedicated (and slightly smarter 😉) customers who are already getting their boiler services booked in.

Every year there are two types of people…

👨‍🔧 Person 1: Books their boiler service nice and early, has peace of mind and sails into winter without a worry.

🥶 Person 2: Waits until the first freezing morning in November, turns the heating on and discovers the boiler has decided to retire.

Now might actually be the perfect time to catch us.

✅ More appointment availability

✅ Less chance of winter breakdowns

✅ Any issues can be spotted before you actually need the heating

✅ One less thing to think about later in the year

So, thank you to all our organised customers keeping one step ahead. You’re the people future-you will be thanking! 😄

If your boiler hasn’t been serviced yet, now is a great time to get it winter ready before the annual mad rush begins.

🔥 BOILER REPAIR IN CASTLE VALE TURNS INTO NEW WORCESTER BOILER INSTALLATION 🔥

Another heating job completed by Afterglow Plumbing & Heating in Castle Vale, Birmingham after a customer’s old Halstead boiler finally became beyond economical repair due to obsolete parts and ongoing reliability issues.

The customer originally contacted us for a boiler repair in Castle Vale after losing reliable heating and hot water. After carrying out fault finding and investigating the appliance, we discovered the boiler was an older Halstead model with major parts now extremely difficult — and in many cases impossible — to source since Halstead ceased trading years ago.

Unfortunately this is becoming a common problem across Castle Vale, Erdington, Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham with older boilers where manufacturers no longer support the appliance or spare parts have disappeared from suppliers altogether.

Rather than continue spending money on temporary repairs, the customer decided to upgrade to a brand-new Worcester Bosch boiler installation for improved efficiency, reliability and lower running costs.

✅ New Worcester Bosch boiler installed
✅ Old unreliable Halstead boiler removed from service
✅ Improved heating efficiency
✅ Modern controls installed
✅ Full heating system safety checks completed
✅ Reliable hot water and heating restored

Many customers across Castle Vale, Pype Hayes, Erdington, Castle Bromwich and Sutton Coldfield contact us after being told their boiler parts are discontinued or their boiler is beyond economical repair.

We regularly carry out:

🔥 Boiler Repairs Castle Vale
🔥 Boiler Installations Castle Vale
🔥 Worcester Bosch Boiler Installations Birmingham
🔥 Emergency Boiler Replacements Birmingham
🔥 New Combi Boiler Installations Erdington
🔥 Gas Safe Boiler Engineers Sutton Coldfield
🔥 Boiler Replacement Quotes Birmingham

If your boiler is unreliable, leaking, making noises, losing pressure or parts are no longer available, it may be more cost effective to upgrade to a modern energy-efficient boiler installation.

Another quality install completed — and this one deserves a special mention 👏

This boiler was installed for some lovely customers in Olton, Solihull by our 19-year-old apprentice under my supervision, who’s now been with me for 3 years. Watching his progress from day one to being able to carry out installs like this is something I’m genuinely proud of.

Loft installations are no joke. Tight access, awkward pipe runs, working in heat, poor lighting — it’s not an easy environment, and definitely not where you learn the trade overnight. This job takes proper graft, attention to detail, and the right attitude — all of which he’s shown consistently.

From pipework layout to overall finish, this is a top job and a reflection of the hard work he’s been putting in behind the scenes.

People talk a lot about AI taking over jobs… but I can safely say this is one it won’t be taking anytime soon — and to be honest, it probably wouldn’t want to do it anyway 😅

Proud moment for me as an employer, and well deserved for him.

If you’re looking for a reliable team that takes pride in their work, get in touch.
