🔥🐦‍⬛The things you find in chimneys🔥

This wood burning stove owner lit their stove for the first time this Autumn only to find smoke coming back into the room.

The cause? A bird had become trapped in the flue and sadly died, leaving the chimney blocked.

I safely removed the bird carcass, carried out a full chimney sweep and finished with CCTV to check the flue is clear and ready for use.

If your wood burner or open fire is due a sweep, contact Alastair at Amber Chimney Sweeps to schedule your chimney sweep.

🔥🍂My first burn of Autumn🍂🔥
I always use the top down lighting method and here's why⬇️

By lighting from the top, the fire warms the flue quickly, establishing a good draw while producing minimal smoke, helping to reduce emissions into the environment.

✅ Warms the flue and establishes a strong draw.
✅ Produces less smoke during lighting.
✅ Helps the fire reach operating temperature quickly and efficiently.

How to do it,

1. Place your larger logs at the bottom.
2. Add smaller logs and kindling on top.
3. Place your firelighter on top.
4. Light from the top and allow the fire to establish.

🍂September started off with a bird nest removal which had been built inside an open fire chimney chamber.🪺

Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, it's an offence to intentionally remove or disturb an active bird’s nest, that's why this homeowner patiently waited until September before having it removed.

The job included;
✅Complete removal of all nesting materials.
✅Standard chimney sweep from top to bottom.
✅CCTV inspection to confirm the chimney is clear.
✅Recommendations to help prevent birds nesting in the chimney in future.
✅Chimney safely cleared and ready to use once the cooler temperatures arrive.

Amber Chimney Sweeps now taking September and October bookings. Contact Alastair to secure your preferred dates.
