Not every electrical project is a clean, new installation.
At MW Electrical Group, we spend just as much time working on ageing, heavily modified electrical installations as we do delivering new installations.
We were recently asked to carry out a comprehensive Electrical Installation Condition Report at an engineering warehouse, where years of welding, grinding and ongoing alterations had taken their toll on the installation.
Following our inspection, it became clear that the main distribution board had been modified numerous times over the years. Homemade trunking fabricated from box section, multiple openings in the enclosure, circuits doubled and tripled into single protective devices, and a complete lack of RCD protection on socket circuits all highlighted the need for significant remedial work.
Rather than applying another temporary fix, our client wanted the installation brought up to a safe and professional standard for the long term.
The solution was to replace the existing equipment with:
* A new 24-way three-phase distribution board
* A double-stacked enclosure to accommodate the required three-phase RCD protection
* A fully tested and certified installation, providing improved safety, compliance and future capacity
Despite working in temperatures approaching 40°C, our team completed the project safely and efficiently, delivering an installation that both we and the client could be proud of.
This project is a great reminder that electrical safety isn’t just about keeping the lights on, it’s about protecting people, maintaining compliance and ensuring installations are fit for purpose.
If you’re responsible for an industrial or commercial property and your electrical installation hasn’t been inspected recently, an EICR can identify issues before they become costly failures or safety risks.
