Here at A R Plastering, we take on all kinds of projects and renovations, from small repairs to full property refurbishments.

On this beautiful 3-bedroom Victorian semi-detached house, we've been brought in to completely transform the interior by installing brand-new plasterboard to all walls and ceilings before fully plastering the entire property.

With older buildings like this, extra care and attention is essential. We're making sure every wall and ceiling is perfectly plumb and level, with all corners freshly beaded to achieve crisp, clean edges and a high-quality finish throughout.

We'll be posting the completed transformation once the project is finished, so keep an eye on the page!

We’re seeing it more and more lately… homeowners being pulled in by dirt cheap quotes for plastering work, only to be left with a finish that’s worse than what they started with.

Cowboy plasterers often rush jobs, skip proper preparation, and use poor-quality materials just to keep costs low. What you might think is a “bargain” can quickly turn into a living nightmare — cracking walls (sometimes it happens even with pros) ,uneven finishes, damp issues, and in some cases, having to pay twice to get it all ripped out and done properly.

At A.R Plastering, we’ve had to step in and put loads of people’s homes right after poor workmanship. It’s frustrating for homeowners and costly to fix — and it’s something that could often be avoided by choosing the right tradesperson from the start.

Nobody talks about the stress.
The physical demand.
Being mentally overwhelmed and close to burnout.

If you have a husband or partner that works in the trades then he probably never mentions this.

He's not working a typical 9-5

Before work starts he's planning, he's out getting materials, he's organising who's doing what.

Then it begins, he's got a full day of physical graft but he's also looking after the needs and concerns of the customer. Answering phone calls through the day to keep work coming in. His back is aching, he's out in the cold but he does it with a smile because he's trying to be pleasant around the customer.

As soon as the physical work is finished he's then writing quotes, chasing late payments, visiting other customers to look at more potential work, its a cycle that never ends.

Everybody else has finished at 17:00 but he's still going late into the evening tieing up loose ends.
Sorting accounts, paying building merchants and trying to shuffle jobs around because some customers are desperate now and some cancel at the last moment.

He knows he should be spending more time with you.
He wants to spend more time with the kids.
He knows there's little jobs that need doing around the house or for your family and friends...

But the truth is he's running at maximum capacity.

Thats why you catch him sat in his van starring into space, thats why sometimes you can talk to him and its in one ear out the other.

He's not purposefully ignoring you or trying to avoid you.

He's trying to calibrate whats happened that day and what he needs to do the next day.

Running a business as a self employed Tradesman is full on and non stop.

Remember he does all of this for you.
This is him providing, this is him trying his best to give you the nicest life possible in the only way he knows.... Hard work.

He doesn't tell you about the stress and struggle because he's been through it all day and doesn't want to re-live it and burden you with it.

He doesn't want no big praise for this either. No big special thanks are necessary.
Just a kind word, peace in the home and a little bit of appreciation.

Thats enough to keep him going, to make it worth it, if he feels respected and valued then he's ready to go again tomorrow 💪❤️

We’re proud to showcase this latest residential renovation where we tackled rising damp and completely transformed the space for our client.

Our 4-Stage Damp Proofing System:
Chemical DPC Injection – Dryzone cream injected into the mortar course to create an effective damp-proof course.

Tanking – All walls tanked up to 1.2 meters using a high-performance tanking slurry for robust waterproof protection.

Render Protection – RenderGuard Gold incorporated into all new render and cement mixes for enhanced salt resistance and long-term damp protection.

DPC Paint Application – Dryzone DPC Paint applied to all bottom courses, with extra attention to vulnerable bay window areas.

Additional Works Completed:
Full plasterboarding and dot & dab installation throughout the dining room for a perfectly flat, modern finish.
Structural opening extended between the dining room and living room, creating a bright, spacious open-plan layout with significantly improved natural light flow.

People see the van.
They see you busy.
They think you’re flying.

What they don’t see is:

The quiet weeks.

The cancelled jobs.

The customers who “will let you know.”

The 5:30am starts.

The quotes done at the kitchen table when the kids are in bed.

They don’t see the pressure of knowing
if you don’t work… you don’t earn.

I’ve had weeks fully booked months ahead.
I’ve also had weeks staring at the diary thinking,
“Right… what now?”

That’s self-employment.

It’s not glamorous.
It’s not always stable.
But it’s honest.

The room had seen better days, with aged surfaces and an overall finish that no longer reflected the standard the property deserved. Our team carried out a full preparation process, ensuring all surfaces were properly prepped before applying a professional plaster finish throughout.

Damp Proofing Project Completed âś…
Another property protected and restored with a full professional damp proofing system.

On this job we carried out a complete treatment to eliminate rising damp and prevent it from returning. The process involved carefully drilling and injecting Dryzone damp proof cream into the mortar course to form a new chemical damp proof barrier. This creates a long-lasting shield against moisture travelling up through the walls.
We then tanked the internal walls up to 1.2 metres, fully sealing the affected areas to block penetrating moisture. Following this, we applied a two-coat cement render system with Dryzone Renderguard Gold added. This salt-resistant additive ensures the render remains durable and protects against future contamination from residual salts.

To finish, the walls were completed with a two-coat plaster, leaving the surfaces ready for decoration and bringing the property back to a clean, fresh standard.
All work carried out professionally, methodically and with attention to detail to ensure a long-term solution — not just a quick fix.
