‘The Sand Artist’….. my great Grandfather Albert Edward, between 1905-1935, would scribe/scratch into the sand on Eastbourne beach huge landscapes of cathedrals and other buildings. He would make a circle from flint stone for the walkers along the promenade to aim at, to make wishes and throw coins into. Art was his life and another source of income through those years. His son Edward Child, my Grandfather, kept hold of the tradition but used this and built a painting and decorating business and flipped properties. Sadly, my grandfather died when I was young at 8 years old but the artistry blood still runs deep in my veins and 100 years on, I have the honour to re-tile this exterior landing in traditional encaustic Victorian Tiles keeping both our heritage and artistry alive. 💪🏼
