How to propagate Umbrella Palm🌱🏝️

These are such a fantastic plant. Heat tolerant, cold tolerant, they can live in the wet margins of garden ponds and also in dry gardens. You can even have them as house plants!

So proud of my mum for winning silver in her local Norfolk Gardening competition. She maintains very large gardens all on her own. Well done, Mum we're proud of you.😘👏👏👏

Although it's common, name is Cape fuchsia, this plant is not actually a fuchsia.

It's origins are from South Africa so is heat tolerant but it's also cold tolerant and can survive winters down to -41. It's genus name of Phygelius is a Greek word meaning 'refugee or fugitive', which may refer to the way it spreads like a runaway.

Grows to a height and spread of 1.5 m and comes in colours of yellow, crimson, red and deep orange. This plant is great for clay soil, is pet friendly and provides a lot of pollen for wildlife.

This plant loves full sun but will also grow in semi shade. Always prune in winter or very early spring only. I can be allowed to grow bushy or you can grow to create a woody trunk. It is a perennial shrub that will drop its leave in winter, and regrow leaf in spring.

Again, this is a photo from my own garden and I love the way yellow flowers contrast with the purple leaf of my Smoke Bush and Choisya behind.

So glad I caught this beautiful Hummingbird Hawk Moth feeding, while dead heading our customers buddleia today.

Don't forget to keep cutting off those finished flowers, to keep them flowering all summer

This is quite a favourite in a lot of gardens we visit. Attracts lots of bees, moths, butterflies, etc and is normally self supportive. It has stubbly stems that catch hold of each other like velcro to help it stand up.

Grows up to 1.8 m high and flowers from mid summer to Autumn.

It easily self seeds by its self, heat tolerant, and is a prolific bloomer. It is not necessary to dead head these either ( unless you don't want them spreading). They give great height to your flower boarders and easily grow between other plants without overwhelming them.
