Investing in the next generation of architects.
At ACA, we believe that great architecture starts with great people. That’s why we’re proud to support the RIBA Mentoring Programme, helping aspiring architects gain real-world insight into the profession.

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Gabriela Azevedo Gomes de Figueiredo, a Stage 2 Architecture BA (Hons) student from Newcastle University. Through the programme, Gabriela spent time with our team, exploring life in practice, discussing career aspirations, reviewing her work, and learning more about the skills and mindset needed to succeed in architecture.

Providing opportunities for students to ask questions, build confidence, and connect with experienced professionals is something we’re passionate about. The future of our industry depends on nurturing emerging talent, and we’re delighted to play a small part in that journey.

A big thank you to Gabriela and to the RIBA mentoring initiative for making these valuable connections possible. We wish her every success as she continues her architectural education.

As we mark Men’s Mental Health Week, we’re proud to reflect on the completion of the Phoenix High Dependency Rehabilitation Unit for the Rotherham Doncaster & South Humber NHS Foundation Trust

Designed as a specialist male-only rehabilitation facility, the unit provides a secure and therapeutic environment for individuals living with complex and enduring mental health needs, supporting long-term recovery and wellbeing.

Our team delivered the architecture, interior design, and CDM & Building Regulations Principal Designer services for this significant project. From concept to completion, the £1.8–£2 million refurbishment was delivered in just seven months, with the first patients welcomed shortly after handover.

Here’s the team checking the final finishes before the opening of the unit.

The feedback from the clinical team has been overwhelmingly positive, and the project is already attracting interest from other NHS Trusts looking to create similar therapeutic spaces.

Creating environments that promote dignity, independence and recovery is at the heart of what we do, and we’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact Phoenix will have on both patients and staff in the months and years ahead.

ACA Directors Amelia Caruso and Alex Caruso attended the prestigious Design in Mental Health Awards 2026 in Coventry this week, representing ACA following the shortlisting of Langtree Care Home, Standish for the Project of the Future Design UK Award.

The event formed part of the Design in Mental Health Network Conference, bringing together leading professionals from across the healthcare, care, mental health and design sectors to celebrate innovation, best practice and excellence in the design of therapeutic environments.

Our client and partner CEO, Fred Owen, delivered a thoroughly enjoyable interactive leadership workshop: From Kennels to KPIs: Measuring What Matters at the event last week.

We learnt how leaders can use storytelling, vision, mission, culture, values, behaviours and trust to build stronger organisations and how the balanced scorecard can help turn purpose into practical measures.

The key message was simple: Don’t start with the money. Start with the story.

We then had a tour of the centre and met some of their furry friends 😊
