A rainy day for Matt can mean only one thing.

No, not putting his feet up with a cup of tea. Let's not get carried away.

Instead, it's a trip to the office, a rummage through materials, a bit of planning, a lot of pointing at things on paper, and - perhaps most importantly - an emergency haircut.

After several weeks of battling the elements, sawdust and general builder-related chaos, it was starting to look as though a small family of birds might have taken up residence.

Thankfully, order has now been restored.

Normal service will resume just as soon as the weather does. 🌧️✂️🏠

We love working outdoors in the summer.

The fresh air. The sunshine. The chance to spend the day creating something rather than staring at four walls.

The rain, however?

Not so much.

Still, a bit of classic British weather isn't enough to stop progress for long. We'll take the odd shower on the chin, keep the kettle on standby, and be ready to crack on again as soon as the clouds move along.

Summer building. We wouldn't have it any other way... apart from maybe with slightly less rain. 🌦️🔨🏡

Rain may have stopped work on site today, but it’s given us time for a bit of local history from resident historian Matt Purkiss.

This week we're looking at the SS Richard Montgomery, the famous wartime shipwreck sitting in the Thames Estuary.

A fascinating piece of local history that's still visible today.

☀️ Heatwave Builder Advisory ☀️

With temperatures hitting 30°C, spare a thought for those builders who still insist on wearing jumpers, trousers, and absolutely no hat.

If your site contains an Ian of this variety, please ensure they:

💧 Drink plenty of water
🌳 Spend some time in the shade
🧢 Consider wearing a hat (we know, revolutionary)

And if there's no sun cream to hand... we're not saying cover them in white paint, but it might stop them turning quite so red.

🔨 New Project Incoming in Thorpe Bay! 🏡

Matt’s on site giving us the full walkthrough of the latest Purkiss Builders project - and yes… it’s all about the prep stage. Because everyone loves prep work, right? 😅

From setting out the plans to getting everything ready for the big transformation ahead, this is where the foundations for a great build really start.

Plenty to do, lots of decisions to make, and we’re excited to bring you along for the journey.

🔨 A new project beckons for Purkiss Builders as we get started in beautiful Thorpe Bay.

We’ll be based here for the next few weeks, transforming another outdoor space and bringing fresh ideas to life.

With all the work happening outside, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that this weekend’s sunshine is a sign of what’s to come! ☀️🌿
