RHD Architects Bespoke designed homes and extensions with a low energy influence. Contact Robert Dunlop RIBA to discuss your next project.

An architectural practice dedicated to providing a high quality design service, specialising in bespoke dwellings and thoughtful crafted extensions with very low associated energy use. Through a creative dialogue with our clients we seek to create engaging spaces that are a delight to use, responsive to needs of their user and that brings lasting improvement to the quality of people’s lives. We design contemporary buildings with an emphasis on simplicity, pragmatism and clarity of concept. Our projects are characterised by clean lines but they are also practical and enjoyable to use. We undertake projects of all types and sizes. Most of our work is based in Northern Ireland, but we occasionally enjoy the opportunity to work further afield.

With the windows installed and the airtightness dealt with internally, we now turn to the external window reveals.

The Zyle Fenster frames allow for a generous 50mm deep Gutex wood fibre batten to be installed on the two sides and head, (a chamfered section of Gutex also placed under the aluminium cill).

The Gutex is then cover with ProClima Contega external adhesive tape, creating a waterproof connection from the window frame to the external breather membrane.

All this effort is to improve the thermal bridge psi-value at each junction (ie reducing heat loss).

Why do this?

At Passivhaus levels creating thermal bridge free details really benefit the overall heating demand of the property and ultimately contributes to internal comfort levels.
