Catering kitchen and event space for in Saintfield.

As Áine and Aisling head to the All-Island Female Entrepreneur Conference this Thursday, hosted by at the Carrickdale Hotel, we’ve been thinking about our business clients, past and present. We collaborate with ambitious businesses and charities to assess their spatial requirements, radically rethink current building usage and design new spaces, products and experiences for their teams and clients.

This project from a few years ago saw the conversion of some vernacular farm outbuildings into a gorgeous mixed-use space that has since served up many delicious meals, gigs, workshops, birthday parties, harvests, a farm shop and many more. A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Scheme and Growing Academy are now run from@these spaces and the surrounding 7-acre smallholding. Who has been?

If you would like to chat about your business needs, or would like us to post you a brochure about our business collabs, just get in touch! And if you’re going to the conference, come say hi - we have a stall in the Business Support Hub 💫

Elevations for a recently submitted Planning Application in Kings Road Conservation Area. Two-story side extension and internal alterations to add a kitchen/dining/living space and master suite to a handsome arts and crafts dwelling.

We’ve been talking in our team lately about making drawings of our projects that look like artworks in their own right… and Part 1 Beth couldn’t have done a better job of that. These quick studies allow us to worth through different options for materials and openings with our clients, and also in this case demonstrate how screened from the road by mature trees this extension will actually be.

Swipe to last image to see a beautiful old drawing of the original house, from the rear, by T McC Johnston Architect. Where we are adding expansive glazing, was always glazed.

Want to see more of this project? We’ll share some photorealistic renders later this week 💫

32 illustrated proposals for a town

Studio idir + Starling Start were commissioned by Mid Ulster District Council to lead the Cookstown Place Shaping Plan, translating community ideas into a set of tangible, testable possibilities.

From the research and engagement process, 32 proposals emerged, each reflecting a distinct opportunity for Cookstown’s future. Rather than impose a hierarchy, we designed each idea to stand on its own merit.

Working with Studio idir’s Hannah and Emma, every proposal was brought to life through a series of illustrations, creating a visual language that can be shared across ages and audiences, and used as a tool for discussion.

Can you spot anywhere you recognise?

Our pavilion at has been short listed for the regional awards and also the reinvented RSUA Awards, alongside excellent buildings by our talented friends and colleagues. Whoop!

To celebrate, here are a few extra shots by the brilliant of a little outdoor performance space, born out of true collaboration, that brings us and the school so much joy.

THE BARREL

Our client wanted to create a luxury glamping pod, for vineyards and distilleries, that was shaped like a barrel and could be split into sections to be transported anywhere in the world. A LOT of a constraints that lead to some interesting, technical, collaborative design conversations with our client, engineer and who are building the pods.

Which layout would YOU prefer to sip your whiskey from?! Bed in the middle, or against one side?

Models don’t always have to be made from precious materials. We used our box for these and it really helped us and our lovely clients quickly work through different options.

Planning application submitted this week to create an artist studio and exhibition space for an artist and curator couple, to the rear of their listed terrace in South Belfast.

We can’t wait to see what they do with the space when it’s completed!
