Another Coventry garden completely transformed 🙌

This new-build garden needed a fair bit of groundwork before we could make it look pretty — including excavating over 20 tonnes of that lovely new-build clay! 😅

Once everything was excavated, rebuilt with Type 1 MOT and properly compacted, we installed approximately 40m² of 600x900 porcelain paving alongside premium artificial grass, both supplied by Travis Perkins Nuneaton.

The customer now has a clean, modern and low-maintenance garden that works perfectly for the whole family.

Another new-build garden given a much-needed upgrade 👌🌿

This time we were over in Hinckley, helping a family who had recently moved into their new home but wanted to make the garden feel a little more like their own.

We removed the existing patio, excavated part of the lawn and sloped area, then opened everything up with new porcelain paving finished with a charcoal block border.

We kept some of the original garden in place, but the end result is a much more modern, open and — most importantly — easier to maintain outdoor space.

🌱 A SERIOUS GARDEN TRANSFORMATION IN COVENTRY!

This was a big one… and the before-and-after photos certainly show it. 👀

Our customer is in the process of transforming this large, two-tier garden, with porcelain paving forming part of the next stage. Before any of that could happen, we had plenty of groundwork to get stuck into.

We started by preparing the entire lower level, removing the existing turf and clearing roots from along the fence lines.

The old fencing was replaced with a completely new fence line using concrete posts, concrete gravel boards and fully framed feather-edge panels — giving the garden a much cleaner finish before we moved on to the lawn.

Then came the fun part…

Normally, on a garden this size, we'd get the digger in and make light work of the ground preparation.

Unfortunately, the digger wasn't getting through the customer's property unless we dismantled the house first… so the rotorvator was called into action. 😂

Left to right. Up and down. Diagonally. Then back the other way for good measure!

The ground was thoroughly broken up and loosened, allowing us to work and screed the soil back to achieve the levels we wanted before laying the new lawn.

We then installed Grade-A turf supplied by Turf-Right across the entire area.

And this is a BIG lawn.

On an area this size, keeping those lines straight and the finished levels consistent is incredibly important — and fair play to the lads, they absolutely smashed it. 👏

Sometimes people look at the finished photos and see "just grass."

We see the preparation, levelling, measuring, graft and attention to detail that went into getting it looking like this.

What a difference. 💚

The past 4 weeks have been extremely hard. On the 17th June we said goodbye to my father in law Rob.

Rob was a brickie for most of his life. He was even part of the teams that built The Richo Arena (Now the CBS Arena) He loved being out with the lads on landscaping projects. Hated any gardening jobs though 😂😂

Rob was an extremely funny, intelligent and a stubborn man. I love you mate. You will be missed by all of us 💔

🏡 Why is my patio sinking?

This is one of the most common issues we see, and the answer is usually hidden beneath the slabs.

A patio doesn't sink because the paving itself has failed. It sinks because the foundations underneath have moved, settled or weren't installed correctly in the first place.

Some common causes include:

🔸 Insufficient sub-base – Not enough hardcore underneath the patio to support the weight.

🔸 Poor compaction – The groundwork wasn't compacted properly, allowing the ground to settle over time.

🔸 Incorrect bedding – Slabs laid on spot beds or patches of mortar rather than a full mortar bed can create weak points and movement.

🔸 Water and drainage issues – Water can wash away supporting material beneath the patio, causing voids and settlement.

🔸 Tree roots and ground movement – Roots, shrinking clay soils and changing ground conditions can all affect the stability of a patio.

A properly installed patio should be excavated to the correct depth, built on a compacted sub-base and laid on a full mortar bed. It's not the part you see that matters most—it's the groundwork underneath.

Think of it like a house. You can have the most expensive bricks in the world, but if the foundations aren't right, problems will eventually appear.

“Why are weeds growing through my patio?”

Most patio weeds don’t actually grow from underneath the slabs.
