As we all ready ourselves for the harsh reality of winter, ask yourself if your house is ready for winter.
Here's a few tips to try and help you avoid unnecessary expensive winter call outs.
🌬️🌪️ Autumn storms are arriving, make sure garden items are secured down or stored away, pick up debris which could block your drains. We often see damage pipework caused by furniture getting blown about.
🌧️☔💦 With the wind comes the rain, and when it rains it pours. Next time it rains, go outside (it's just rain you'll be ok) and check your gutters aren't overflowing and the drains at the bottom are free from leaves and obstruction. Most domestic flooding can be avoided by carrying out this simple check and acting on it if there is a problem.
🥶⛄❄️ Then comes the cold. Can't emphasize enough the importance of lagging external water pipes and taps, ideally winterize the pipes, isolate the water and cover with pipe lagging, old cloths or whatever you have at hand.
🧑🎄🐭🐀 We love to welcome visitors on a cold winter evening, but Santa isn't the only one trying to visit. If it's cold out, mice and rats want to come in. If you see any holes in your building, fill them, monitor them. A mouse can fit in a pencil sized hole and rat through a Sharpie sized hole.
