Mayer Hall

The Joseph Mayer Community Partnership is about saving the Mayer Buildings and bringing them back into Community use as a Community Hub.

Our community buildings in Bebington have been left to fall into a state of disrepair for many years, the buildings consist of Mayer Hall and the old Mayer Free Library also known as No 65 The Village, Bebington. In 2014 a group called The Joseph Mayer Community Partnership was setup to save and restore the buildings. Mayer Hall is a former Art Gallery and community hall that was built around 1878

Joseph Mayer Philanthropist who later donated in Trust to the community of Lower Bebington on his death in 1886. We have worked with Council over a number of years to revamp the building with new Electric's and 3 phase distribution board, toilets, kitchen and redecoration. During this time we have built up a good selection of user groups. Number 65 was the former Mayer Free Library of Bebington. It was built by extending an old Farm House built in 1716, which Joseph Mayer had purchased and opened its doors in 1870 to the Community. It remained a Library until it closed in 1971 and was moved over to the current Civic Centre. From this date it served as the Bebington Voluntary Services hub. From the formation of WBMC no funds where allocated for its upkeep. The Library fell into disrepair, currently we have secured funds from WMBC to revamp the building in preparation for an asset transfer to JMCP as a Community Hub. Work has started to revamp the building using JCP's plans. it is a major upgrade and it is hoped that completion will be reached by September 2022. Joseph Mayer Community Partnership is committed to this project and want to recruit members of the Community who are like minded to part take in the future of these buildings. It is important that our Community have a say in the future for their buildings. So, please come and join us in our efforts.

Mayer Hall welcomes Wirral Open Studio this Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th June 10am to 5pm free entry. Come along and not only see the artwork but meet the artist.

Now on Wirral Society of Arts art exhibition at Mayer Hall CH63 7PL. Wednesday 10am to 5pm, Thursday 1.30pm to 7pm, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 10am to 5pm up to Sunday the 26th October 2025. NO ENTERANCE CHARGE All Welcome come and speak to local artists exhibiting their work.

Wednesday the 9th October to the Sunday 13th October is the last chance in viewing the art show in Mayer Hall, Lower Bebington, CH63 7PL by the Wirral Society of Arts.
The Joseph Mayer Community Partnership have reached another goal in their journey to return Mayer Hall and the Mayer Library back to the people of Bebington and working with The Friends of Mayer Park to restore the Mayer Legacy to you and us.

We are please to welcome Wirral Society Arts to Mayer Hall. The Society are brining their yearly Arts Exhibition of local artists in your hall it will run from Saturday 21st September until 13th October 2024. We are pleased, to once again see the historic Art Gallery come to life once more after 94 years absence,. Please come along, and support your local Artists and enjoy their hard work & skills.

Following on Joseph having bought the Bakery engaged Mr Heffer Architect to design his Hall to be known as Mayer Hall. This was a replacement for a small hall on land next to his house which housed his art and artefacts. He was such a collector that it had out grown his needs Please note the front facade of the sketch and the ornate detail above the front entrance at roof level which sadly is no longer there. This sketch was an illustration prior to building. We found Mr Heffer was living in Liverpool at the time and later moved south to London.
