Give them a follow ❤️
I'm going to put my heart on my sleeve for a minute, because the sling library really matters to me
The start of October has been one of the quietest periods we've had in the last four years.
Last week, across our two sessions, we welcomed just four new families, alongside several no-shows.
And I'll admit, it's a bit heartbreaking.
Nearly 3,000 babies are born on the Wirral every year. Yet so many families have never heard of the sling library, never had the opportunity to discover the joys of babywearing, or are using a sling or carrier without knowing whether it's safe and comfortable for them and their baby.
We've spent years building a service that offers friendly, knowledgeable, affordable support to local families. And we really, really want it to continue.
But the reality is that without new families finding us, and existing families coming back as their babies grow, the future of the sling library isn't secure.
We're a Community Interest Company, not a charity, and we currently receive no external funding. The service is supported by the lovely families who hire carriers, attend sessions and book consultations with us.
So, how can you help?
❤️ Spread the word. Share our posts, tag an expectant parent or tell a friend with a little one that we exist. Word of mouth makes such a difference.
❤️ Help us reach more families. Could you put some leaflets or posters somewhere that parents and parents-to-be might see them? I'm very happy to pop some in the post. Just send me a message.
❤️ Leave us a review. If we've helped you with your babywearing journey, a quick Facebook or Google review would mean the world. I'll pop the links in the comments.
❤️ Volunteer with us. Whether that's helping at a session or doing a little bit behind the scenes with social media, we'd love to hear from you.
And while I'm here, a few things I'd really like more families to know:
✅ Yes, we can support families with premature babies.
✅ Yes, we can help families with twins or multiples.
✅ Yes, we support older babies, toddlers and preschoolers too. Babywearing isn't just for newborns!
✅ Yes, we can support families who can't afford our usual fees. We don't want finances to be a barrier to getting help.
✅ And no, you don't need to buy or hire a carrier from us to get support! If you've already got a sling or carrier, we're very happy to help you get it fitted safely and comfortably. Whether it was bought new, second-hand, gifted or passed down from a friend, you're welcome to bring it along.
We're here to help families enjoy babywearing, not just to hire out slings!
I think that's everything I want to share for now.
I'm incredibly proud of what we've built, the families we've supported and the little community that's grown around the sling library.
I just want to make sure we're still here for the next generation of Wirral families.
If you could do just one thing today, please share this post. You never know who might need us. ❤️
