Heritage Open Days is Englandโs largest festival of history and culture. Each September, historic buildings, monuments and sites across the country open their doors, offering free opportunities to explore places, hear their stories and discover the people, skills and communities that have shaped them. In 2026, the festival takes place from 11-20 September.
For Universal Stone, Heritage Open Days is an important opportunity to celebrate the value of our historic environment and help more people understand why careful conservation matters.
As specialists in the conservation and restoration of historic buildings and monuments across Essex, the Southeast, the South and London, we work to protect the character, craftsmanship and material heritage of the places that connect communities with their past.
From traditional masonry repairs and stone conservation to sensitive restoration work, our aim is to ensure that historic sites remain safe, authentic and accessible for future generations.
We are proud to share two Heritage Open Days taking place at current and former Universal Stone restoration projects:

Taking part in Heritage Open Days is a chance to discover stories that may otherwise remain hidden, experience historic places in a new way and appreciate the specialist work involved in preserving them. It also helps strengthen the connection between historic sites and the communities they serve.
