This is Alfred. Some of you will already know him.
He's the man behind AG Home & Gardens... and the moustache!

Alfred started AG Home & Gardens because he wanted to build something of his own, working collaboratively with clients and designers to create spaces that were functional, beautiful and loved. You can't do that from the sidelines.

They're not his designs. They're not his visions for a shady garden nook or an Art Deco hall with emerald harlequin tiles and just a hint of Beryl Cook infused into the colour scheme. And that's entirely the point... it's not about him.

It's about you. Your space. Your vision. Your authorship.
But with all his experience and craftsmanship, he'll get you and your project across the line.

Alfred is the one you'll meet when you book a consultation visit. He's the one who'll manage the work on site, making sure it stays true to your plan. And he's the one who'll add those final finishing flourishes you've set your heart on before he hands the completed project back to you.

From start to finish, he'll share that journey with you and he'll be your contractor throughout the whole process. And when he's not on site, Alfred spends his time rowing with his teammates or hanging out with the clan. And, just between us, he enjoys a good puzzle too.

A room with a view... 🌿

Our clients wanted to create a beautiful but functional space that could become a real extension of their home... somewhere for the hot tub, outdoor dining, family gatherings and long summer evenings.

But they also wanted it to feel like a clearly defined space in its own right, separate from the rest of the garden.

The raised timber deck does exactly that, with the balustrade creating a natural boundary and the pergola giving the whole area a sense of structure without closing it in. And, of course, there's plenty of room for the hot tub and some mood lighting!

Installed just in time for the summer sunshine (clearly not present when we took these photos! ☁️) and, rather conveniently, those recent heatwaves ☀️🔥

Slow. Down.
The best designs take time.

Let them percolate. Give them the space they deserve to unfurl, breathe and evolve, fusing with the things that inspire you.
They are deeply personal.
Don't. Rush.

Rushing is for everything else that you do.

When you think about a design for your garden or for your home, the process demands you that actually hit pause.
Commit to it. Enjoy it.
Take that time for yourself.

☀️Let a season pass so that you can see how the changing quality of light diffuses through the windows and trees.
☀️Enjoy a cup of tea as you scroll through Pinterest boards, flip through glossy magazine pages and lay out your favourite sample swatches.
☀️Watch how the rain changes the colour of stone in your garden and makes it gleam... What happens when the light hits it? Which colours suddenly come alive?
☀️Take your decorative stone samples and run them under water, rocking your hand back and forth to see how their angles chase the sunshine.
☀️Notice that gorgeous lamp Linda just bought for her hall and how rich the fabric looks against those plum-coloured accents of her wallpaper and how it elevates the entire space.
☀️Spend your lunchtime at an art exhibition... What draws you to certain paintings? What colours do they use? What light, what textures, what strokes?

Collect all of it.
Because good design isn't about choosing everything in one afternoon.

It's about noticing what you love and giving those ideas enough time to become something that feels unmistakably yours and utterly beautiful.

Patio designs as unique as you are!
Our client wanted something a little special and their chosen stone has completely refreshed the space, bringing warmth, character and plenty of subtle colour to the garden. whilse changing very little else.

The finished courtyard now feels brighter, more inviting and wonderfully connected to the character of the property — while creating a practical outdoor space that can be enjoyed every day.

Big excitment at AG Home & Gardens, as we look forward to attending Puccini's La Boheme delivered by Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera South East this coming Wednesday 15th & Thursday 16th at Christ Church on Silchester Road in St. Leonards from 7pm. We can't wait... and, here's why!
