⚠️ Big changes are coming for EICR inspections — and they're long overdue!
From 1 October 2026, every electrician carrying out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) must legally hold:
âś… A recognised Level 3 qualification in periodic inspection and testing
âś… A minimum of two years' documented experience
âś… Both displayed on the rear of their gold ECS card
And this is important — it's the individual carrying out the inspection who must hold the qualification, not just the company. It doesn't matter if the firm has accreditations or registrations on the wall. If the person standing in your property doesn't personally hold that Level 3 qualification, the EICR is not valid. Full stop.
If that qualification isn't on the back of the card — they don't have it. No excuses, no exceptions.
For legitimate companies like ourselves, this is brilliant news. The Temu electrician era is over — you know the ones, cheap quotes that look like a bargain right up until something goes wrong. The days of unqualified traders undercutting professionals and putting landlords and homeowners at risk are coming to an end.
And a word to any landlord tempted to cut costs here: a dodgy EICR doesn't just put you in legal jeopardy — it puts your tenants in real danger. Someone is living in that property trusting that a qualified professional has checked it's safe. That responsibility shouldn't be handed to the lowest bidder.

Ask your electrician to show you their gold ECS card and flip it over. If the Level 3 periodic inspection qualification isn't on the back — walk away. Don't be fobbed off with any excuses.
