We were asked by some residents of the Heartlands estate in Whitburn to cut back some of the overgrown vegetation away from their boundary.

Unfortunately this estate is suffering from grounds maintenance issues after a loss of Factoring Companies. This appears to be common place throughout new build estates currently causing residents a lot of distress.

The small sections we cut back due to lack of maintenence are starting to cause issues like invasive weeds and grasses coming into the owners gardens.

To recognise National Children's Gardening Week this year I thought it would a great time to start our little Amelia interacting more with the outdoors and learning about gardens and horticulture.

We've had loads of fun exploring areas of grass, trees, plants, soil and actual gardens. The Week culminated in a trip to the Scone Palace Garden Fair which she loved.

At Zeal we feel initiatives like the National Children's Gardening Week are vitally important for future generations to have a real positive impact in the environment they live in.

If possible this weekend, get your little ones out and about exploring gardens, parklands and the outdoors whilst having some fun 😊.

A change of use for this space at one of our customer's gardens. The section of lawn had slowly been deteriorating due to poor light, damp conditions and several trees competing with it.

We installed an Everedge system round sections of the perimeter, membrane to prevent root growth coming through and gravel to top off the 20m2 area. It has provided a more useful space than the lawn and gives the owners dog their own section in the garden to do their business 🐕.

We recently completed this Beech hedge reduction to try and make it easier to maintain and look after.

Between 2 - 3 metres was reduced from the top with sides trimmed which has greatly improved the overlook of the hedge. Working area was surveyed for nesting birds prior to any cutting.

All waste removed and disposed of as per SEPA regulations.

Going into Year 3 of Zeal Gardening it's time to reflect on my first project a long time ago where I helped design, build and plant this garden.

Near 20 years on the garden continues to develop and change through a mix of very old and new plants combining to create a cottage garden feel.

This is now one of the many gardens we maintain and care for which shows the complexity of a garden design full of a wide variety of plants.

850m2 lawn scarified yesterday to rectify the moss issue and help the grass establish again. This is part of a long process which started last autumn. In total it look 3 passes with the scarifier to remove 20+ builders bags of moss and thatch.

🤞 we are getting control of the moss.
