Firstly, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took the time to attend the funeral of Roger Penny last week.

We were overwhelmed by the turnout, both in person and online.

It means the world to us that so many people came together to celebrate the life of a man who meant so much to so many. Hearing the stories of how people knew Roger, the memories they shared and the impact he had on so many lives has been incredibly touching.

Secondly, during the wake the bar was raising money and thanks to everyone's generosity, we managed to raise an incredible £4248.

This money will be used to support local charities and community projects in Roger's memory – a true man of the Mendips, who always wanted to give back and support the local community wherever he could.

Thirdly, a massive thank you to all of the incredible local businesses who helped us make Roger's funeral and wake possible:

We are incredibly grateful to each and every one of you. It was a true team effort and a reflection of the family spirit that Roger built Pennys around – a spirit that we will continue to carry forward and keep alive.

Roger Maxwell Penny 1938-2026

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our founder, Mr Roger Maxwell Penny.

What began with some pigs, an old tractor and an incredible amount of grit, courage and belief grew into the business that Pennys Group is today. Through decades of hard work and perseverance, Roger built a business that was his life's work, leaving a legacy that will continue for generations to come.
Everything Pennys Group has achieved is rooted in the foundations Roger laid. His values of honesty, loyalty, hard work and looking after people remain at the heart of everything we do and will continue to guide us for many years to come.

Roger's commitment to the business was matched only by his devotion to his family. While he dedicated himself to growing the company, Catherine, his wife of 65 years, dedicated herself to raising their family, allowing Roger to pursue his ambitions with complete focus. He made countless sacrifices throughout his life to provide for those he loved, building a successful business that his family can be immensely proud of.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Roger will remember a man of strength, humility and kindness. He earned the respect of so many people throughout his life, not simply because of what he accomplished, but because of the way he treated others. He will be remembered for his shrewd approach to business, fairness, honesty and no-nonsense outlook on life. Despite his success, he always remained grounded and never lost sight of where he came from.

Roger leaves behind his beloved wife, Catherine, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and many lifelong friends, all of whom will miss him beyond words. His influence also reached far beyond his family, touching the lives of employees, customers, suppliers and the wider community.

While we mourn the loss of an extraordinary man, we also celebrate a life lived with purpose, determination and love. His name and the values he stood for will always remain part of Pennys Group.

Our thoughts, love and deepest condolences are with Catherine, his family and everyone across Pennys Group as they navigate this heartbreaking time.

⚽️ England vs Norway tonight... and we’re getting close to full time at Coleford! 🏗️

The latest progress photos are in, and we’re well into the closing stages of this fantastic project.

The new football pitch is looking so good we’re pretty sure Harry Kane would fancy getting on the end of a cross, while Jude Bellingham would already be asking for the ball in midfield! ⚽😉

Thankfully, we’ve managed to complete this project without VAR, injury time, or anyone claiming they were fouled by a wheelbarrow! 😆

We’re nearly over the finish line now, and we can’t wait to show you the completed project.

Good luck to the Three Lions tonight! Hopefully they finish as strongly as Coleford is!

This week George and Adem attended the Norton Hill School Careers Fair and met so many enthusiastic Year 10 students who were keen to learn more about careers in construction, demolition, recycling and waste management. ♻️

A big thank you to Jayla Wilcox and Simple Recruitment Head Office for inviting Pennys to be part of this year’s event. We really enjoyed speaking with students about the wide variety of career opportunities available within our industry and sharing what we do. 💪

We hope we inspired a few future professionals, and we look forward to supporting more events like this in the future.
