The end of an era.
The lathe shelter is now gone.
Once we've moved and settled I'll be building a new one, and I won't be using pallets I've scrounged from various places.

This evening my axe and lathe sounded in the shelter one last time.
We're moving again in a few weeks, hopefully this time for the last time as we're buying, not renting.
The shelter won't be coming with me to the new house. But I will be building a new one, so it's ok.
That said I did have a bit of a moment in there once I'd finished the bowl.
I built this shelter on my own. I even got the roof sheets up all by myself.
That took some doing let me tell you.
This is also the last of the Walnut I'll be turning. The rest that I have I'm giving away as I won't get to it before it's no good by the time we've moved and settled.
Anyway, onwards and upwards.

These are possibly the last three legged "Jorvik" stools I'll make.
At least in this garage.
Why? Because soon I'll be moving house.
I don't know when that will be exactly, but I need to pack everything up ready to go.
Once we've moved and settled I want to concentrate on turning, so this sort of work will be stopping.
For now I'll be busy packing ready to move, so I'll be quiet for a while.
For now enjoy these sycamore and sweet chestnut stools.

The "snap" of getting the core and mandrel off the bowl is very satisfying.
I really should have turned this core thinner at the base. Lesson learned.

I told myself not to try and be a smart arse with this bowl and try and do something clever.
Good thing I don't listen to me.

My first (small) event with Gwerin Y Gwyr was excellent.
Nothing beats hanging around in the undercroft of a castle with like minded people.
I shall certainly be doing more next year!

This morning I managed to destroy both my splitting mallets.
The older round headed one was never going to be saved, but I've saved the trapezoid head mallet.

After some very good encouragement from a particularly well known bowl turners last weekend (who shall remain nameless) I endeavoured today to turn a bowl with the "triple lip" like on the bowl I use every morning.
Thankfully I figured it out and didn't totally wreck the bowl!
There's a bit of roughness on the inside, which I really need to improve on, but I think this one came out quite nicely.
