Honestly, is Andy Burnham ever going to address the actual problems people are facing in this country instead of trying to look cool on social media and making a big deal out of £2 bus fares?
Don’t get me wrong, £2 bus fares are great for people who use them, but what about the men and women who are paying an absolute fortune in fuel just to get out and make a living?
What about the tradesmen who rely on their vans every single day? You can’t exactly jump on a bus with all your tools and materials to get to a job.
Fuel prices are crippling people and businesses, yet we’re still paying fuel duty and then VAT on top of that. It’s absolutely absurd.
And it’s not just fuel. Insurance, materials, maintenance and pretty much every other cost involved in running a company is going through the roof.
The worst part is we can’t even just put our prices up to cover it because customers are struggling just as much. How are you supposed to justify charging someone more for a job when they can barely afford it in the first place?
Honestly, don’t be surprised if more and more tradesmen are forced to shut their companies down because it’s getting to the point where it’s hardly worth the hassle of running a business.
People are out working hard, paying their taxes and trying to make an honest living, but it feels like they’re being punished for it at every turn.
I’m all for making public transport cheaper, but a £2 bus fare isn’t going to help the thousands of people who need their vehicles to earn a wage.
Maybe it’s time we started focusing on making it affordable for people to actually go to work and run a business instead of constantly celebrating things that don’t help everyone.
