Today, Mark Goldsworthy, our Commercial Manager, is attending the Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber Construction Forum, where he serves as Chair.

The forum was established to support the growth and success of the local construction by helping businesses create opportunities, build strong networks, and promote collaboration across the industry. It provides a platform for organisations to engage with peers, showcase their capabilities, and highlight supply chain opportunities, fostering a thriving business environment in the Barnsley and Rotherham area.

We are proud to have Mark so actively involved, representing , and sharing insights and best practices that help strengthen the local construction community. 👏

🌿 Volunteering and Giving Back to Our Community 🌿

Our Senior Engineer, Ian Anderson, recently joined the Canal & River Trust for two days of volunteering, helping to care for our local environment. Ian and the team, cleared vegetation, carried out litter picking, undertook maintenance and repainted the lock gates at his local canal.

At VHE, we proudly say we are “Engineering Our Environment” but our commitment goes beyond construction. We strive to ensure our work has a positive impact and that we give back to the communities we serve.

Ian’s initiative is a perfect example of this ethos, and we encourage all our colleagues to dedicate at least one day to volunteering, whether it’s litter picking, supporting a local food bank, or inspiring the next generation through STEM activities. Together, we can make a difference…on site and in our communities.

Strengthening the Team! 💚

We are delighted to extend a very warm welcome back to David Smith, who joins us as our new Remediation Director.

Many will remember Dave from his previous time with VHE between 2017 and 2019, when he served as Contracts Manager. He brings with him a wealth of experience across a wide range of disciplines.

Dave began his career with North West Water in 1986, before moving into the contracting sector, where he has held a number of senior commercial and operational roles. Over the past 15 years, he has specialised in earthworks and remediation, earning a strong reputation for leadership, collaboration, and technical excellence.

His appointment underlines the strategic importance of remediation to Seymour VHE and our plans for the future. It’s a highly specialist field, and we’re committed to continuing to build our expertise and brand strength within it.

With his depth of experience, strong client relationships, and familiarity with our business, Dave is perfectly placed to help take VHE forward.

Annual VHE X Harworth Cricket Gathering 🏏 ☀️

This week we held our much-loved annual cricket match with Harworth Estates – and we couldn’t have picked a better week for it!

On Wednesday, our team made their way to Cawthorne Cricket Club for a friendly (and slightly competitive!) game against Harworth. This tradition has been going strong for years, celebrating the fantastic partnership between our teams.

A huge thank you to Cawthorne Cricket Club for the warm welcome and to Cannon Hall Farm for keeping everyone well fed with delicious BBQ!

And of course, thank you to everyone who came along – whether you were playing, cheering from the sidelines, or just enjoying the food and atmosphere.

Inspiring the Next Generation! ⭐

We were delighted to welcome a Camphill Wakefield student to our Land Remedial works in Crigglestone, a project we’re delivering in partnership with Wakefield District Council to create safe and healthy spaces for families to enjoy for years to come.

The student got a full site experience—chatting with Site Manager Phil and Buyer Nikki about all things VHE, asking insightful questions and even getting the chance to sit in our excavator!

A huge thank you to Nikki Fletcher and Phil Dews for making this visit a memorable one and for delivering beyond construction.

The student returned to school proudly wearing his VHE hard hat and Hi-Viz, which we donated as a keepsake to remember his day on-site. It’s always great to see young people taking an interest in what we do, and we’re proud to play a role in inspiring the next generation. 👷
