Why P Miller Electrical Stopped Advertising Through Checkatrade
At P Miller Electrical, we’ve always strived to provide the highest level of service to our customers across Barnsley, Wakefield, Rotherham, Huddersfield, and beyond. As a trusted local electrician, our reputation has been built on quality work, reliability, and word-of-mouth referrals. In the past, we also worked with platforms like Checkatrade to help us reach more customers. However, after much consideration, we've decided to stop advertising through Checkatrade.
High Costs and Limited Returns
One of the main reasons for this decision was the high costs associated with using Checkatrade. As a small, locally-owned business, every penny we spend on marketing has to deliver value. Unfortunately, over time, we found that the return on investment wasn't as strong as we had hoped. The membership fees and extra charges for leads became increasingly difficult to justify when compared to the number of genuine leads and inquiries we received.
Limited Leads from Managed Contacts
Another factor that contributed to our decision was the limited number of quality leads we received through Checkatrade’s managed contact system. While the platform promises to connect businesses with potential customers, we often found that the leads provided were not as specific or valuable as we had expected. Instead of bringing in customers actively looking for electrical services, we received many general inquiries or contacts from people who weren’t quite ready to commit. This took up my allocation of leads and proved unproductive.
Focusing on What Works Best for Our Customers
As a company that prides itself on building relationships and delivering great service, we realised that the most effective way to reach customers is through direct referrals, local connections, and organic growth. We want to focus on providing excellent electrical services and building a reputation based on trust. We also know that local SEO and customer reviews on our Google my Business page and social media channels are far more meaningful to potential clients than a paid listing.

While we no longer advertise through Checkatrade, we’re still dedicated to growing our business and continuing to provide top-quality electrical services to our community.
