Bridge Street Garden Banbury

Bridge Street Garden Banbury This page is to promote activities and events organised by Banbury CAGs 'Bridge St Community Garden'

In 2015 Banbury CAG members started developing a community garden by converting the unused space into a thriving edible garden. We welcome anybody to visit in their free time or attend our gardening sessions and events. This community led project is always looking for individuals or groups who may wish to participate or contribute in some way to the project. So far we have offered opportunities fo

r local groups of young people to use the space and to learn basic horticultural skills. Our aim is to provide educational and networking opportunities for the local community and other aspiring community action groups within the area.

Please join us for our second session of Change Makers, a monthly gathering in the community garden with Lynne and Tamzin (Tee P*e). A chance to slow down, play and connect through creative activities.

Taking inspiration from the garden, we will create collaborative clay sculptures, gather textures into handmade zines, trace the shifting shadows of plants and paint to music.

Free, participant-led and welcoming to all ages and abilities. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Youโ€™re welcome to bring your own lunch and stay for a relaxed picnic afterwards.

Look forward to seeing some of you there!

A massive thank you to Windmill Orchards
for donating so many beautiful plants to Bridge Street Garden

These were all grown from seed and carefully nurtured by their team and weโ€™re so grateful for such a generous donation.

The plants will directly benefit some of the community groups we work alongside over the coming months, helping more people connect with growing, nature and each other.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support ๐ŸŒฑ

The past few months have been a time of experimentation for the P*er-Led Food Growing Group.

Since March, participants have nurtured seedlings in preparation for Three Sisters growing: a historic Indigenous companion planting method where corn, beans and squash are grown together.

The group has grown tomatoes from seed, which are now thriving in their new bed, and transformed an old pallet into a vertical growing bed filled with strawberries, peas and companion-planted marigolds.

They have also begun building a living willow arch, with beans and peas planted and ready to begin climbing.

Elsewhere in the garden, potatoes planted in repurposed water butts are now beginning to flower. A sign that new potatoes are growing.

Alongside the growing projects, the group regularly enjoy on-site garden recipes including nettle pakoras, butternut squash soups and garden herb mocktails.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed their time and energy. It has been a valuable period of learning, sharing skills and trying out new ideas.

Anyone interested in getting involved is welcome to join! The group will meet on 21st and 26th June. Please see poster for details.

A big thank you to Greg for donating some beautiful corn and pumpkin seedlings, which are now planted and settling into the garden nicely. We also got stuck into plenty of other gardening jobs and made great progress together โœŒ๐Ÿฝ

๐Ÿž๐ŸŒ Yesterday, to celebrate Great Big Green Week, the Elfins group from Banbury Woodcraft Folk visited Bridge Street Community Garden for a wonderful minibeast session facilitated by Hanna

The young people explored the garden in search of insects, snails and other fascinating creatures, learning about them with the help of resources Hanna kindly provided through Biodiversity Bloxham. Armed with magnifying glasses, they took a closer look at the minibeasts they found, helped create a bee hotel and even enjoyed a friendly snail race!

Please be reassured that all the animals were treated with care and returned safely to the garden afterwards.

A big thank you to Hanna, Biodiversity Bloxham, Woodcraft Folk leaders, and of course the young people themselves for bringing so much curiosity, enthusiasm and sense of wonder to the session ๐Ÿ’š
